I worked at Clipper Windpower (California) full-time

    Pros

Office headquarters location is great. Can't imagine a better place to live and work.

    Cons

Upper management doesn't make the correct decisions. At this rate, I don't think the company will last very lone

    Pros

The people in the company and at mid to starting levels were great and very hard working. They believed in clean energy and put in hard work and long hours.

    Cons

Senior management was the problem and they did not take tough decisions. The decisions were very short term and did not see the bigger and long term picture. Many projects were started and then cancelled midway wasting resources and reducing employee morale.

    Advice to Management

    Get you act together

    Pros

Great company to work for. I was hired on to work a 3 month contract. I ended up working 4 months.

    Cons

Clipper Windpower has 2 locations. One is located at Carpinteria, CA and the main office is located at Cedar Rapids, IA. I worked for the location in Carpinteria, CA but the location I worked at was in Fremont, CA named Testing House. Clipper Windpower is a customer of Testing House.Defective Boards from wind turbines all over the USA were sent to me in Fremont for repair and testing. The only issue I had was these boards had different configurations depending there locations and this got a bit confusing but I eventually figured it out with help from Clipper Windpower field service engineers.

    Advice to Management

Try to give field service engineers as much information as possible and supply employees with test equipment needed to perform their job. Management was good. I was supplied with all the tools I asked for to perform my job.

I worked at Clipper Windpower (California) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Local setting, office location. Culture was good before UTC takeover. People able to work 9-5 without too much of a problem.

    Cons

Management promoted to levels beyond their abilities. This was masked by the wind energy boom that enabled company growth without a solid track record.

    Advice to Management

Durability testing cannot be ignored. Driven to market too quickly.
