I have been working at Close Brothers (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good career progression opportunities
    Exposure to leadership team
    Decent salaries and bonuses

    Cons

    Poor communication among departments
Significant IT improvements needed to catch up with competition
    Bad work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Invest in IT software. Expecting in-depth analysis without the necessary tools (Tableau, Anaplan etc) is not reasonable in 21st century.

I have been working at Close Brothers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close Brothers is very well placed in the marketplace and a job feels secure to outside influences. There are a number of senior people within the business who are very supportive.

    Cons

The visions and values seems to promote a facade of a caring environment which works as a mask for some toxic attitudes.
Pay is good if you're willing to fight for it, but unless you've got something better lined up, they are not willing to reward.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time with the businesses to understand their real needs. There seems to be too much a disconnect which affects productivity.

    Pros

Interesting business model. Conservative but not without desire to test boundaries and explore new markets. Motor Finance have plenty of opportunities to develop over next few years.

    Cons

The usual bureaucracy with any financial services organisation. There is usually a way to manage this but it does require a good knowledge of these processes.

    Advice to Management

Continue to encourage and support ideas. Get out of the office and meet the teams. There are plenty of great minds with great ideas working in the ranks.

I have been working at Close Brothers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

On the surface they're not doing a bad job; free fruit, drinks and snacks. Good social engagement and relatively flat structure, ambitious plans looking to the future...

    Cons

...but there are clearly problems when turnover's so high half the staff have been there less than a year. Lack of problem ownership, superficial, confused and misleading communications, blame culture, flat but dysfunctionally top heavy all chiefs and project managers but not nearly enough indians to follow through on those ambitious plans looking to the future....

    Advice to Management

Stop, think, respect and invest in your most valuable resource (at all levels). There's a lot of fair, good and exceptional people growing weary of "holding on nervously to their seats".
