I have been working at Cloudera full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Excellent work/life balance -Great people -Exciting mission -Making the world a better place -Competitive pay

    Cons

-Stock tanked hard after the merger -Many people, especially high ranking or high-merit folks, have left -Culture in flux after merger -Ongoing reorganizations and unreliable management -Legacy Cloudera (pre-merger) had a culture of transparency, but the new management is dismantling that piece by piece and everyone notices.

    Advice to Management

You *have* to do more to keep people and more to backfill people after they leave. The merger happened in record time, but stop acting like it's over, it's still in progress. My long-term outlook for company is still positive, but I worry about execution given the recent spike in turnover.

I have been working at Cloudera full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Nice office, good amenities, nice coworkers

    Cons

    * Some people in management positions do not have the concept of work-life balance * There is a sense of competition rather than team bonding or working together * Personal career development is a myth here

    Advice to Management

The kind of culture being promoted in the company seems like it is being designed for only high-functioning workaholics, with minimum to none responsibilities in personal life. If you have a life outside work and you seem to be taking care of it and you are not a "star" employee, then in plain words - "you are not good enough"! As you can imagine this makes it hell for working mothers who find the superman culture... not only difficult but downright a disgusting place to work at. You are being constantly judged here, there is no interest in building employees' career skills and you just end up feeling demotivated and burnt out. Cloudera's culture was nice before it merged with Hortonworks. (A bad fish makes the pond dirty). My advice to management - Don't just think about your best performers at a given time, spend enough time on teams and make the work environment accommodating enough to have a team of happy and good performers.

I worked at Cloudera full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good salary Nice benefits like daily lunch, unlimited PTO Good work life balance

    Cons

Poor management Nepotism Complacency Can be cliquey Good people leaving en masse Horrible HR team (no career development plans, no effort made to retain top talent)

    Advice to Management

Be less cocky about the company and its outlook and more transparent about the realities of trying to sell open source with bigger and better competitors in the space

I have been working at Cloudera full-time

    Pros

Polite employees. Great work life balance. Flexible work schedule. Transparent leaders.

    Cons

Infighting between and within departments make it a toxic environment. Middle management has little leadership experience. Passive aggressive people who want to undermine you at every turn.

    Advice to Management

Pretty much all decisions are made by upper management. You won't scale without good processes in place.

I have been working at Cloudera full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Generally good, smart people work here, senior leaders are strong with a good vision, free lunch and barista at HQ, still small enough to make a noticeable impact, flexible schedule with WFH option

    Cons

not much room for career/salary growth which leads to attrition, process/system improvements are underfunded and under staffed, work/life balance and "do more for less" pressure is often an issue

I have been working at Cloudera full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great opportunities and many avenues for growth. Always challenging work and always learning. Love the culture. Very open and inclusive. Executive team is one of the best I've seen

    Cons

Not much honestly. Definitely challenging when it comes to work-life balance. Always encouraged to take time off tho, but when on the clock, its definitely fast-paced.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!
