I have been working at Clover full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Awesome work - Free lunches and dinner - Freedom to choose the kind of work you want to do - Very helpful engineers - A place where you can see yourself growing

    Cons

    - Still in the growing phase (which is not a con actually) - Improvements can be done in HR related work

I worked at Clover full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Clover has an exciting product, in a niche that will exist for a long time. The tech stack is very broad, from custom hardware, custom Android fork, web, developer API, etc. With very little exception, everyone at the individual contributor level was great to work with.

    Cons

When I left, the management was horrifically bad. People operations was based off of emotions, engineering management was hiring people left and right out of nepotism, and existing managers were demoted, or left.

    Advice to Management

I've heard that you got rid of a bunch of the dead weight in upper management, which is good. Part of the allure of Clover is the culture. If the old-timers are telling you the new hires are causing a bunch of problems, that might be a clue that something is screwed up.

    I worked at Clover full-time

    Pros

Co-workers are amazing, they really make this company bearable each day but don't expect them to stay long, this company is really a 'coffee break' for a lot of people. You can immediately see the opportunity for greatness but you also quickly see how the leadership here has no interest in really growing to be a big company. The cons definitely outweigh the pros so lets dive right in.

    Cons

When your parent company doesn't effectively communicate with you, it equates to a recipe for disaster. Leadership at Clover behave like high schoolers, talking behind others backs, no leadership qualities and dismiss some of the best talent they have acquired all due to the desire not to grow and stay as a small player in the industry. I had the absolute worst first 90 days, every move made was criticized by leadership...

    Advice to Management

You can clearly see who the "favorites" are from the COO perspective. When your trying to build a cohesive ecosystem, then all employees should be your favorites. Got to take emption out of it, if you want to grow, scale, and get top talent to stay and grow.

I worked at Clover full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Beautiful office. Fun people. I need 5 words in the "pros" section, so here you go.

    Cons

Individual contributors were promoted to management with the expectation that they'd be able to manage on top of all of their pre-existing IC responsibilities. I know of a few cases where people were given this "promotion" with no change in salary. Hardware and software slips all the time. No communication across teams. Upper management is terrible about trimming the fat. (namely the inner circle of low working...

I worked at Clover for more than a year

    Pros

    - Most people are really fun to be around. Lots of social stuff. - Lots of interesting things to work on (Back-end, front-end, kernel, apps) - Lots of freedom to horse around.

    Cons

    - Terrible at testing products. - Ops dept is lazy, refuses to share knowledge, and aren't very good at their job. - Engineering practices of new-grads. No learning from other's experience. No understanding of system-building.

    Advice to Management

    - Stop hiring bootcampers/new-grads developers - Start hiring experienced managers

Excellent benefits. Flexible, open minded manager who values transparency, leadership and results. High caliber colleagues. Regular, creative, fun events like hackathons and off site retreats. Happy hours twice a month. Beautiful, environmentally friendly office that encourages interaction. I enjoy the challenges of dealing with the large scale as a result of Clover's success.
