I have been working at CoStar Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Excellent pay and office amenities - Young and fun workforce - Lots of opportunities for advancement if you actually do your job and show a modicum of initiative. I've been here just over a year and have received a promotion to management and a $10,000 raise, there are lots of similar stories - Huge future growth potential into new market areas for the company and the current employees. If you are hired as a researcher but have a special aptitude for sales or programming or client relationship management etc, you can move laterally within 6 months of hire. The company values putting the right people in the right roles. - Lots of perks and performance based bonus opportunities

    Cons

    - Very metrics driven for the entry level positions. They pay better than virtually any other entry level role in Richmond, so you are expected to spend your time in the office actually producing. - Changing directives/expectations, which is the nature of a growing company but it can be frustrating - Lack of interdepartmental collaboration. Many people are unaware of what many others in the office do day to day which can stymie innovation. - Performance incentives can often incentivize gaming/cheating, which can be rampant and self-reinforcing.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your front-line managers. Change the way you reward employees to remove the cheating incentive.

I have been working at CoStar Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

CoStar is a company that is growing and changing constantly and one that allows their employees to do that with them. Moving from a researcher to a manager in a short amount of time, is something that has opened many training opportunities, growth potential and created a very positive experience. The compensation and benefits are competitive and all-encompassing. Upper management works with their employees to make changes that create a better research environment and the ever changing culture is improving for the better daily. They value their employees opinions and suggestions and make changes accordingly.

    Cons

The fast paced, constantly changing environment can be tough for some researchers. The 4 week training process helps with this and allows for the researcher to understand the company in full.

    Pros

Forward-thinking, growing company. Great benefits and office location.

    Cons

The compensation doesn’t match the amount of work you’re expected to accomplish and the results you’re expected to achieve.

I have been working at CoStar Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Young, well-educated workforce. Very solid benefits package (including healthcare, quarterly bonuses, and plenty of on-site amenities like a gym, healthy snacks, etc). The office is really nice. Good, albeit sometimes infrequent, company events (Christmas party, Nationals' games, Habitat for Humanity opportunities). Overall work is interesting and as long as you keep sight of the bigger picture, your work feels valuable. You can leave your work at work and you're rarely ever asked to do overtime.

    Cons

Sometimes a very reactionary workplace. Your experience can weigh VERY heavily on who your direct manager is. Often the company is run like a startup with drastic changes happening very quickly; that can be stressful. Day-to-day work can occasionally be tedious.

    Advice to Management

Be more open about what the possibilities are. Employees shouldn't be worried that their department is moving or changing or that their job function is going to be something completely different from what they were hired to do.

    I worked at CoStar Group

    Pros

    Metro benefits, Gym, Young staff.

    Cons

As Managers, we were coerced into aggressively polluting CoStar's research department with relentless deceit, chintzy contests, and above all hostile career threats. That place is toxic.

I worked at CoStar Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working at CoStar can be a positive experience and you can work hard to gain some great experience. This is a great job to start your career in the CRE industry.

    Cons

Don't expect anyone to help you have a great experience. Learn what you can and keep moving. Promises are made that are never kept and it really comes down to deciding what you want to get out of working at costar, making that happen, and moving on.

I have been working at CoStar Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is growing rapidly and there is a lot of opportunity for someone who really wants it. No company is without its challenges, but I've found that as Research Manager who has overseen a wide scope of researchers, the ones that found it the most challenging and have vented on here are those that never worked in a metrics-based or sales environment before, and it can be culture shock. CoStar gives opportunities to a lot of people fresh out of college who have never worked in a professional work environment before and the high expectations that come of a fast-paced, dynamic environment such as this can be difficult to acclimate to. Once you get past all that, it's a fun environment with great leadership and someone who works hard and really wants to move up will excel here. I've just passed my 1-year mark and am looking forward to what's next.

    Cons

It can be difficult to engage and motivate employees who have this position as their first job. CoStar should seek more new hires who have at least 1-2 years of professional work experience under their belt. I think this would really help attrition.

    Advice to Management

Communication is key. The leadership here is great and I have learned a lot from the directors. Sometimes the communication gets broken down, but there are plans in place to improve it. Also, the workshops like comps clinics were very helpful -- they have stopped for several months - they are many people who could really benefit from it and I think they need to bring that back.
