I have been working at Coast Dental Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My pay is good and we're a part of the union. Not working on Saturdays and only one day we work until 7. Union pays for medical and other benefits. Gives a 25 cent raise every year I believe. lol

    Cons

The office and old and run down. Equipment old and barely holding up. There is no janitorial service so the employees take out the trash stock the restrooms and mop floors in the offices. Their budget is ridiculously low so it's almost impossible to get the supplies an office needs to run smoothly. We've run out of gloves, sterilization pouches, masks and lab coats. You put your order in for supplies and they send what they want to. Short staffed they have one person doing a job for 3 people. They hire dentists out of school that really aren't trained or have the experience to keep these offices a float.

    Advice to Management

Get a handle on all of your offices. Hire upper level management people who really care about the company. Effectively train your staff. Give bonuses and raises to offices that do their best. Stop worrying about bottom line most of the time and find ways to fix the problem that the company is having so the offices can produce and get the company back where it needs to be.

    Pros

Co-workers, pay, PTO, weekends off for most people, honest and caring providers. Seemed a great fit at first, but has since lost its way.

    Cons

A sad tale of a company losing its way quicker than with which it can keep up. This company is going downhill faster than it can maintain. Layoffs weekly both in the field and at the home support office. Family is back to run the show and it's failing fast. Vendors and rent go unpaid, employees are paid late, forced and trumped up google reviews from higher management staff to mask the desperate attempt to hang onto every penny they can get to come in from claims and collections. Every angle to cut costs and recover from debt are being made. Staff is governed by fear based management with constant threats of write-ups, firing and discipline if margins are not met. You can feel the tension of this sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

Stop the denial. Admit the company is suffering a hardship instead of pushing harder, wearing employees thin, demanding more & desperately chasing pennies.

    Pros

There are a good core of people who have hung in through thick and then and they are great to work with.

    Cons

The company shows no loyalty to the long term employees. They continue to concern themselves with head count with no regard to loyalty.

    Advice to Management

Communication is the key. Rewards for loyalty should be a major point of concentration. 4 years without a raise and no explanation is ridiculous.

    Pros

If you are fresh out of school then is a good place to start. You do a little of everything like learning codes and figuring out how to clinically and insurance works.

    Cons

Still using films and poor training.

I worked at Coast Dental Services full-time

    Pros

At one point, when they had a CEO, the company was well run and profitable.

    Cons

Once they acquired the west coast side, it's been all down hill. They ran out of money trying to fix the west coast, ran off the CEO, and the family returned. The family hired the CEO in the first place because they made a mess when they tried to run it in the beginning. They're making a bigger mess now because they're panicked. It's only a matter of time before the bank pulls the plug on them.

They skip rent payments in the dental offices trying to make payroll. They don't pay vendors. The bank loan from buying the west coast has been refinanced, and the whole exercise cost them one of their most profitable subsidiaries. They've leveraged personal assets trying to keep the bank at bay, but they're tapped out. They don't have enough to continue covering the losses that stem from their poor management. If they ever started breaking even, they'd have a long road to get the debt paid down before they started thinking about updating the dental offices that are old, run down, and still using film for x-rays.

They don't keep promises. They outright lie. They even resort to astroturfing Google reviews and the reviews on here. The District Manager and Regional Vice President reviews on here were requested by upper management. They're constantly promising that they're right on the cusp of turning the corner, but the reality is that they're just trying to get money into their pockets before it all collapses around them.

Make no mistake, everyone wants out of there.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the way and hire someone that knows how to run a company. It worked for you last time until you started meddling.
