I worked at Coastal Federal Credit Union (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very casual work place. Has a very casual dress code Blue jeans are acceptable all the way to the executive level.

    Cons

Poor Executive manage. Has a tendency to be all over the road map on decisions and directions for the company. Can not be trusted. Willing to talk or gossip about employees to other employees. Favorites play a big part in their decisions on employees not quality of work. Very serious concerns on IT department, Infrastructure and Security. Only reason successful is that it was formally the IBM credit union and still has customers from that era.

    Advice to Management

Develop standards with integrity for executives, management and employees. Have a clear vision that match the industry standards

I worked at Coastal Federal Credit Union full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, many employees are promoted from entry level positions - benefits are adequate, they have a robust wellness program, bring in mobile health screening and they promote healthy lifestyles

    Cons

Lack of career paths, lack of management training. Too often instead of promoting existing employees, positions are filled from outside. Company culture has changed from service to sales. Credit Unions are supposed to help their members not just make a profit at any cost especially to the detriment to employees. Employees need to have the tools to succeed, many are set up for failure.

    Advice to Management

Train your management is better trained. Too many employees are passed over and management roles are brought from other companies, specifically from another area financial institution. Many employees are promoted and then demoted when then don't meet expectations that are unclear.

    Pros

Coastal as a whole is a great company to work for, however the Consumer Lending department is not a great place to be.

    Cons

Management in the indirect lending department

    Advice to Management

Get rid of a couple people in the Indirect Lending Department and you'll be just fine. There is a lot of turnover there, and you should be able to see why.

I worked at Coastal Federal Credit Union (More than a year)

    Pros

Coastal Federal Credit Union is a great company to work for and it offers many individuals the opportunity to gain stable employment.

    Cons

I believe that the company is beginning to operate more like a bank and now focus only on selling to their members as opposed to giving them what they need.

    Advice to Management

If I were management I would be a little more transparent in the future plans of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to retain good workers and listen to their needs before implementing new changes throughout the organization.

I worked at Coastal Federal Credit Union (More than 5 years)

    Pros

PTO..the business is not the same anymore. .no work life balance for Teller. .and the TOS and managers are full of it

    Cons

After chuck purvis became CEO. Coastal has gone down hill. They rely so much on thoes machines. The newer ones that count in bulk provided that your cash or checks do not get stuck and in it does your out of luck is you didn't know the exact amounts. The credit union is becoming a bank..with raised fees and cross selling. It's even bad to the point where an employee FORGED a members signature on a a business document so the account would stay open. Majority of the tellers are incompetent..depositing in the wrong accounts..there is a lot of nepotism in the organization..and the people with tenure are overlooked

    Advice to Management

Quit while you can or your business is going to go under
