I worked at Cobalt International Energy full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Small company with a small company feel. Pretty thin organization with good folks throughout. The people are great and very helpful.

      Cons

Lack of focused leadership. Perpetually changing mission and not the greatest work life balance. Nicest people in the world, but communication was seriously lacking.

      Advice to Management

Just survive the downturn. Sounds like new management has good ideas.

I worked at Cobalt International Energy for more than 5 years

        Pros

Joined Cobalt International Energy in 2011. Company was only 5-1/2 years since initial establishment, minimal staff at the time, and upper management was being vetted for official positioning. Cons

Cobalt International Energy heavily burdened with the inability to sustain Angola Deep Water Operations with the downturn in the industry. Reorganization cost 60% of both employees and contractors jobs due to lay offs. Upper management in disarray which resulted in the loss of the Founder and CEO position, CFO position x 2, and the retirement of the COO.

        Advice to Management

Build upon the GOM discoveries, Build upon your capital returns from current production in the GOM, Move slowly and strategically toward establishment of New Ventures in the years ahead.
