    I worked at Cobalt full-time

    Pros

I came to Cobalt from a non-technical background. Starting in a non-consulting position originally, Cobalt gave me the opportunity and resources to transition into a position more fitting with my long-term career goals. Cobalt also invests heavily into creating a learning-environment for building up your hard and soft skills and actually applying those in real-world situations. On top of that, the company...

I have been working at Cobalt full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, benefits, and experience. Mature company with a startup attitude.

    Cons

Being small and mature, there's not much opportunity to move into a management position here - if that's what you want.

    Advice to Management

Dont underestimate the role of soft skills in people management.

I have been working at Cobalt full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I started working at Cobalt as a junior software developer coming from a software development position at a Fortune 500 manufacturing company that treated it's developers like a liability and compensated them similarly. If you're a software developer looking to get out of a similar situation or looking for a place to start your career, Cobalt is a perfect place to start. Working for a software company means you'll be...

    Cons

You'll need to take your work home with you at times and the projects can be stressful when deadlines approach and problems occur. Be prepared to work long hours when required to get the job done.

I have been working at Cobalt

    Pros

Has all the HR benefits you would expect from a forward thinking software company. Some of the smartest and most dedicated coworkers I've seen in my professional career. Big challenges, big clients, big projects.

    Cons

Not a job for just clocking a paycheck, you'll love it here if you're hard working, if not... High stress, but personally, I consider this more of a pro, but that's me. Expensive area to live, and if commuting is your solution to save money, good luck on the beltway.

I worked at Cobalt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

When I worked at Cobalt we built out CRM systems customized to tackle the challenges our clients faced. It was a good experience working on the Cobalt team and interacting with clients -- the CEO and President and other senior management gives motivated employees a chance to innovate and provide feedback. They also invest in employee development. Opportunity to wear different hats.

    Cons

May not be the ideal company for those who don't wish to work on teams or collaborate across departments.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the incentives in the form of bonuses or contests to allow employees to bring new ideas into the mix.

I worked at Cobalt for more than 3 years

    Pros

I began working at Cobalt during the early phases of my career. Cobalt was a great fit for me, as I was young and eager to learn and had ample opportunities to expand my skills and experience. During my 3 years of employment with Cobalt, I developed and expanded my skills in graphic design, database design/development, network administration and application design/development. The experience I attained, in a relatively...

I have been working at Cobalt full-time

    Pros

Cobalt is a great company to work for. The people are smart, hardworking, and talented. Management is truly invested in its employees, cares about their well being, and encourages employees to maintain a positive work-life balance. In the consulting department at Cobalt I’ve had the opportunity to develop and grow my skills as an IT consultant because I’ve gotten experience with all aspects of the software development...

I worked at Cobalt full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I worked for Cobalt for about three years, and they were by far some of the most formative years of my career so far. While the company is smaller in size, this means increased responsibilities, ease of access to executives, and many learning opportunities. I was giving opportunities at Cobalt that I would not have received at a much larger company. The company's emphasis on best practices and standards was inspiring,...

    Cons

Because the company is smaller, there is always plenty of work to go around. This means little idle time and you are usually working 45 hour weeks at a minimum. However as I mentioned above, when you are working with good people and good projects, the grind is not nearly as bad.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your employees, maintain your current office culture, and keep pushing the boundaries of what your team and product can do.

I worked at Cobalt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place to work early in your career. Young, fun and casual workforce makes for an enjoyable place to work that doesn't feel too much like work. Add social outings and regular happy hours to the mix and you become part of the Cobalt family pretty quickly. I met tons of great people I still remain in close contact with during my time at Cobalt. They give you a lot of responsibility pretty quickly, but you learn...

Thanks for your great feedback. Over the past two years we have taken a hard look at the position descriptions and tasks that we are asking employees to perform so that we could get a sense of what other companies in the DC metro area are paying even though the titles may be different. ...
