I have been working at Cobb County Government full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security, medical insurance, dental insurance, optional additional vision & life insurance, 457 deferred comp in lieu of 401k

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement - you can move forward when the person ahead of you does or they retire, upper level advancement is based on who you already know - not your qualifications, things are the way they are because that is how it's always been - when changes are made it may be counter-productive.

    Advice to Management

Start appreciating your employees more - it will help increase morale which will increase worker productivity, award promotions based on qualifications - not on who you know, don't be afraid to stand up for your people when necessary

I have been working at Cobb County Government full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

the health benefits are cheaper than majority of the companies in the area and the free health clinic that you and your dependents can use

    Cons

the pay really sucks and depending on your department it can be child like

I worked at Cobb County Government full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hour long lunch break. Some of the people were nice and helpful

    Cons

A lot of people here are just waiting to retire and don't care about helping anyone else so it can be challenging to start new (And be black) and get other people to help you. I received no formal training from my manager and the old guard/good ole boys run the show. Compensation is low but about what is expected working for a county government. Depends on what department you work in but the systems we used were old and the county "doesn't have" money for investments into upgrades. I would look for somewhere else to work that isn't so politically motivated.

I have been working at Cobb County Government full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The benefits are great.
People are knowledgeable and are willing to learn new things
LOCATION! Being able to avoid the Atlanta traffic craziness is worth it.
    Great professional development opportunities,

    Cons

The length of tenure here can lead to stagnation in some departments.
    Nothing else.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to engage and retain talent. With all of the retirements coming up, it will be important to have talent in place to fill pivotal roles. The culture can use some work, but that is the case with most bureaucratic organizations.

I worked at Cobb County Government part-time

    Pros

I loved working here. There are a lot of perks and opportunities here you don't find at most organizations. They offer paid training and online training. They have a great wellness program. No organization is perfect, but if you are on time and perform well there are opportunities to grow. Most employees have been there for 10 years or more and they usually promote from within.

    Cons

Because majority of the people have been there and are older, a younger person may have to adapt to a set pattern of operation or choose to go to another company that is more modern

    Advice to Management

Modernize and update. New concepts and ideas are needed to hire and attract fresh people with ideas

I have been working at Cobb County Government full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

the benefits are some of the best benefits I have ever been offered

    Cons

lack of promotional movement, plus it's a government job so the salary isn't equivalent to fair market values.

I worked at Cobb County Government full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

We were off weekends and holidays. There was literally nothing good about working there. I literally ran out on my last day there.

    Cons

    1. They try to cheat you out of overtime. Matter of fact, they will cheat you in overtime if you're not vigilant.

    2. Rat traps and roach infested building

    3. In my opinion, management is grossly incompetent

    4. Limited ability to provide ADA accommodation

    5. Unorganized

    6. Very low pay with very limited growth. $0.01 promotions happen

    7. Work more than you're paid

    8. Dated systems that you will be put to blame for. For example, there is a system outage in GA,but it's your fault because you took 5s to use the restroom

    9. Impractical and possibly illegal work habits. For example, cutting lunches shorter than 30 minutes unofficially. You must be at your desk taking the next person at time. The systems are dated and you must unlock your drawer. That takes about 7 minutes

    10. Clique like environment with very rude staff

    11. Non working air. It was 98 degrees with no air circulating inside

    12. Aloof politics. For example, someone being fired but the boss doesn't know

    13. No job security

    Advice to Management

The Cobb County Tax Commissioner Office has serious work to do. This has been the most horrific experience of my life. I am so happy to move on. Good luck with your future endeavors
