I have been working at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is growing because big Coke is getting out of the bottling aspect of the business and selling off territory. They do make some effort to show appreciation for employees. Some employee truly enjoy working there. Free soda/tea/lemonade/dasani

    Cons

-Large number of contract employees on staff
-I was trained by somebody who started less than 2 months before I did
-Leadership needs improving in some areas of my department
-Process improvement is met with resistance and excuses, or falls on deaf ears
-Some employees make mistakes daily and there is no corrective action
    -Poor communication among departments
    -Complacent employees
-Overly religious and conservative values . Old, Male, White executive team

I worked at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits and 401K are standard, which is better than some companies.
When you work in the field, no one is there looking over your shoulder.

    Cons

People who work in the field (drivers, merchandisers, acct. developers, usually work between 50 and 60 hours a week. You never know when you'll be done. You might be flying along, and then your last delivery is late, so you end up getting home at 8 PM (after starting at 5:30 or 6 AM). The strain on your body is pretty serious. I thought I was indestructible, but after 10 years, I have serious carpal tunnel from lifting soda all day. Lots of my co-workers have blown out their backs or had other health problems. Thank God for worker's comp laws, because if it was up to Coca-Cola, they'd throw you out on the street and hire a fresh back. Coca-Cola also changed a lot while I was there. They took a way a lot of perks (like a company car and gas card) and added a lot of annoying hoops to jump through (like a phone that tracks your every move and gives you a route to run that usually makes no sense). Overtime is calculated using some weird/dishonest system that ends up paying you less than minimum wage for your overtime. Of course, this incentivizes the company to work you to death and waste your time on pointless meetings that make your day longer.

Long story short, I went to Pepsi. It's not perfect either, but the work load is more reasonable, overtime is better, the benefits are better, and management is so much easier to get along with.

    Advice to Management

I understand you're in an industry that is facing challenges, but you can't flat out rip off your workers by paying them $5 an hour in overtime while setting them up to work 60-hour weeks.
