Great mission, fun team, super results-focused

    Pros

Great place to work if you're passionate about helping people get the love they deserve. The team takes this seriously. Team has gotten very good at working remotely with Zoom/Slack/Asana and more tools. Super open communications, lots of feedback, fast at decision making. Has done quite well during the pandemic as this is being written, all things considered.

    Cons

This is a relatively small company with big competitors, join only if you're up for that kind of challenge.

Not what it used to be

    Pros

    * people are friendly and generally nice. People do tend to care for one another * lot of exposure to senior leadership. They do make time and hear you out. * new office is nice and Hayes Valley is great * work/life balance is solid

    Cons

    * Company is complacent. It takes forever to get ideas moving and to ship new features. The features we ship tend to be very similar to those that other dating apps have had for years. People seem to be happy here and have kind of settled in. Management keeps talking about differentiation, but we keep shipping stuff that makes us more like everyone else. * Lots of turnover. It seems like 2019 was a rough year for turnover. We lost a lot of really good people and it was often unexpected. At times, people seemed to disappear with no notice or warning. Some employees were let go with little consideration for how their exit would affect other teams and people, so we were left scrambling to cover. Really poor planning and management here. * People management is really spotty. The company tries to be good about people management, but there are not a ton of experienced people managers and the company is too small for people to put real time into it. * Pay is pretty low relative to other places. Perks are pretty spartan, * company lacks vision. It seems like leadership changes how they organize the company based on the latest management books someone read. It can feel like the leadership listens to their friends in other companies more than the people inside CMB.

Nice people, but reactionary and directionless

    Pros

The people here are really, really nice. You will enjoy the personalities and the kindness in the office. There is a ton of access. The office is remote friendly, so you can work from ANYWHERE. People have a mission and believe in it.

    Cons

People might be too nice and deferential. Things move slower than you'd expect at a 40 person company. There is a ton of tech debt and alignment can be super slow. We also seem to unite around a bit idea, try it out, then scatter to something else when it doesn't seem like it worked. Something will happen and everyone will react rather than staying the course. As a result, it never felt like this company was going anywhere, despite the strong desire to build a great customer first product. Definitely a place where execution greatly lags ideals. Also, as previous reviewers have noted, there are a lot of knee jerk decisions that get made, particularly with people and those aren't always handled well or professionally.

Amazing place to work with great culture, people, and leaders.

    Pros

The leaders truly care about the employees of the company. It is a very special place in that regard. I've never seen more transparency of the company's strategy and product roadmap in my career. I feel my voice is heard, much more so than other companies in which the product team controls all decisions. The company demonstrates a growth mindset and learns from mistakes (instead of pointing fingers).

    Cons

It's a small company so the benefits will not be as generous as a huge, profitable company like Facebook or Google. But benefits is usually not why people would join a company.

Accessible Exec Team, Great Place to Learn

    Pros

    - Great place to learn, there are always new interesting problems to solve - Leadership is accessible, supportive, and positive - Employees are passionate about the company mission and it shows in how well teams collaborate

    Cons

CMB has a couple of remote teams. This can be challenging for some, but the exec team and office management are very aware of this and implement all the tech we need to work together effectively.
