I have been working at Coffman Engineers full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Coffman values their culture, and works hard to maintain it at each office. One piece that I really appreciate is transparency. They do a great job of communicating their goals (both at our local office level and company-wide from the President/CEO). It’s nice to know not only where the company is going, but how I fit into that plan. They support professional growth and development, and provide great opportunities...

    Cons

Nothing negative. It's a busy time in the industry and at times the workload can seem daunting, but that's true for most firms in our industry right now. Even with the busy economy, Coffman really supports taking time off to spend with friends and family.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Coffman is different from other firms in the region which is a great thing.

Thanks for the encouraging note. As a leader, you get used to hearing that one thing is always at a deficit: communication. Honestly, this can be the biggest challenge. We as people need to know where we are going (and why) in order to have clear purpose. Clear purpose is imperative ...

I have been working at Coffman Engineers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coffman is a great place to work, they really value their employees and value how important family is as well.

    Cons

I do not have anything bad to say about Coffman. My commute is the worst part of my day, but Coffman is worth the commute.

I have been working at Coffman Engineers full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Family is important. Very flexible with PTO and days off. Really do feel like corporate and the local managers care about you and work-life balance. Branches are opening up all over the U.S.A. Each branch has its own distinct culture and autonomy. Deep support within the company to help with projects. There is always an expert about something somewhere. 5% 401K match. Got smart folks in every department, easy...

    Cons

Company is expanding quickly and getting big. Individual impact in the grand scheme of things seem minimal. Not too many young engineers being hired, managers are always on the lookout to hire experienced professionals. The young engineers that are hired tend to not stay long for some reason. 8.5 days of holidays during the year...my old job had 18 days so maybe I am biased. Starting pay was not very competitive...but...

I have been working at Coffman Engineers full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

I've had the opportunity to work at three separate engineering firms and I can safely say that Coffman Engineers has been the most enjoyable. From day one, everyone has been extremely welcoming and had the attitude "how can I help you succeed". Corporate staff is lean but it is not noticeable. Whether it's an IT issue, HR or expense report issue, a responses is always timely. Coffman Engineers provides the freedom...

    Cons

The structure of the company is set up for office autonomy. Internally this is both a pro and con. The con is that there are times where offices need to come together to better serve the clients and that is easier said than done. This is known by management and they are implementing initiatives to streamline the process.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

You emphasized a couple of my main drivers! Freedom and autonomy. Top down command and control is for those organizations that lack the courage to set people free and manage the outliers. But my experience tells me, hire great, respectful, whole people; create a healthy environment, ...

I have been working at Coffman Engineers full-time

    Pros

I very much enjoy working at Coffman Engineers. They reward with hard work and commitment to quality. To the ex-employee that left the negative comment, you were fired because you were lazy. The company bent over backward for you and still, you would not pull the mark. No one wanted to work with you because you didn't do your job and they constantly had to cover for you. Good luck with your old job. That is probably...

Awesome to hear that we have a good culture and fun people. That is a big part of what we are shooting for. I don't think that we should have an expectation of significant overtime. In bursts overtime is necessary in order to avoid over-hiring and then lay-offs (which is not ...

I worked at Coffman Engineers full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

I did not enjoy working for this company, I feel there are no pros to mention.

      Cons

Some management, especially in the department i worked in, showed preferential treatment to certain employees. Don't plan to be given any significant responsibility or management role of any kind unless you are a woman. My boss regularly lied to you, didn't give me the chance to advance in my field, and ignored my requests as an employee for furthering my career. Be prepared to work many many hours of overtime and...
