I have been working at Cogent Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Cogent is better than I thought before I started. The systems are outstanding and they are geared to both the customers and employees!!

    Cons

Marketing is minimal due to keeping that duty to the sales team and passing lower prices to the customer. Not really a con but a true benefit for the customer.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you have been doing-- growing the global sales team and making the outstanding key acquisitions that you have been doing over the years.

I have been working at Cogent Communications full-time

    Pros

    - This is a company that will gladly give a chance to many - maybe too many
    - But only the best will survive and do well
    - Babysitting is not available here
    - You either have it - or learn it fast - and will thrive or will fall and be pushed out
    - Conditions are tough - spartan like - you either win or lose
    - The sales person here is a survivalist - uses few tools and needs to get things done right every month
    - In Telecom/IT Sales there is - Sales - and then there is THE COGENT SALES
    - If you are successful at Cogent in sales - any other company will be lucky to have you

    Cons

    - In a dynamic company like this one lots of things can be done better
    - Sometimes there is a clear Fear of Change - even if Change is necessary
    - Sales people compete first against their peers and then against other companies
    - Lots of accumulated garbage needs to be disposed of

    Advice to Management

    - Listen to the few smart people that bring up concerns, needs for improvement in a positive way - they care about the company and want to grow with it
    - Value and compensate better your sales people
    - Ensure all offices follow HQ's policies 100%
    - Change hourly compensation - it is ridiculous - and give sales people more flexibility as far as personal time
    - Focus on accomplishments and results - not numbers or matrix
    - IT/Telecom sales environment has changed dramatically - this is 2017
    - You have a great product and DS is a great leader - nurture and grow your best asset: The Sales People
