Amazing work culture, intelligent individuals who care about their success and yours. Big company with the small company feel.

I have been working at Cognex full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Culture in head quarter is good (I get to visit from time to time)

    Cons

    - Middle Management is really bad, I've had 4 managers in my 5 years and they were poorly trained (if at all) and lacking basic organizational skills
    - management does not set you up for success, instead they only try to cover themselves and make a good appearance to their managers
    - lots and lots of political games are being played
    - your growth potential at Cognex depends a lot on how much your manager likes you which in most cases has nothing to do in how well you are doing your job.
    - Satellite offices are neglected (I've worked in two so far), this is in terms of culture, career opportunities and visibility
    - The annual review process is nonsense and demotivating at best. Even if you get good "grades" because your manager likes you, it feels like you get judged like a preschool kid about how clean your desk is
    - HR is not doing their job even if you constantly remind them to
    - Promises are made but not kept constantly (like promotions)
    - Communication within and between teams is really poor
    - Teamwork is not important and is not encouraged at all

    Advice to Management

    Get some basic management training!

I worked at Cognex full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Cognex has some cutting edge product and great coworker that you work with.

    Cons

The finance department is a mess. Middle/upper management team has been there for 10+ years and are still using the same methodology as 10+years ago to work and manage team. This is a huge problem. They refused to accept new ideas. Like the other post mentioned, when something happens they will blame on the low level employees which good managers don’t do. And on the other hand with their upper managers they will try to cover the problem and hide the issues under the carpet. A lot of employees are scared to go to work because of making a small mistake could get them In trouble. The managers don’t try to improve the process to minimize the mistakes but simply blame on the low level employees.

HR department is just a figure, when people complain to HR they will always favor the managers’ side and not do anything to improve the situation.
Many many turnovers in the finance department.
People are not happy at all. If you ever interview there please be aware.
