I worked at Cognitive Medical Systems

    Pros

They really try hard to accommodate their employees and make it so you aren't working all the time within reason. They are open about the company goals, financing, and the HR department is awesome.

    Cons

Not a lot of room to move up.

    Advice to Management

Have a better system to allow people to grow and move up.

I have been working at Cognitive Medical Systems full-time

    Pros

The senior management team and company founders are very approachable and transparent. There is a company wide meeting at least once a month with full disclosure of P&L and company strategy, so there is never a question about how the company is doing or what direction it is heading. The "fun committee" schedules events at least once a month: including catered company lunches, waffle breakfasts, picnics, exercise competitions,...

    Cons

If you want established structure and processes, and you don't have the desire to help form it yourself with a young and upcoming company, then this might not be the company for you.

I worked at Cognitive Medical Systems for less than a year

    Pros

At least I was paid on time.

    Cons

Poor work life balance, supposed "open door policy" is nothing but lip service, management is clueless and the turnover rate is increasing at a rapid pace.

I have been working at Cognitive Medical Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is an amazing company. It's a start up that's growing fast, and making all the right moves along the way. Sure there are some growing pains, but that's to be expected and shouldn't be a hit against the company. The leadership is transparent with the direction the company is headed, offer thoughtful and engaging social events to keep morale high, find interesting work for people to do, challenge staff to work smarter...

    Cons

It's a start up. Not all processes are as refined as in large companies - so you need to be somewhat flexible and go with the flow. Sometimes in start-ups you have to wear many hats other than what you've been hired to do, which can be fun and interesting work - this requires some patience and flexibility as well while the company grows. Most of the work at Cognitive as of this writing is based on government contracts,...

    Pros

Great colleagues, free food and sodas.

    Cons

They claim to have an "Open Door Policy" . However, management doesn't want to hear about things that are not working well in the office. Benefits are bad because the company is considered a "small employer" and they use Covered California for insurance benefits. No dependent coverage. Open office environment makes it impossible to concentrate.
