I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Depends on project to project.

    Cons

There is too much of internal politics.Company makes millions of profits and the employees are underpaid(not in my case though). Mostly every one at client places work daily 8 hours work for client and 4 hours work for cognizant. They make sure 4hours is not documented so that they dont need to pay you. There are policies for extra time and dont worry no one will every enforce them so as to not to pay you.

    Advice to Management

See employees as people rather than resources for making money.

I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Better starting salary than most companies

    Cons

Expect very slow growth in your career. No matter how hard you work it will be difficult to get a decent bonus, and your salary will not increase by much. You don't have much a choice as to where you are placed.

    Advice to Management

Provide better growth opportunities and offer more choice in placements when possible.

I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've learned a lot since starting my role here. There are plenty of opportunities if you actively seek them out

    Cons

The opportunities that you can find and excel in generally go unnoticed by upper management unless the client writes them a note about it.

Getting promoted is difficult and weighed more heavily upon on how long you've been at the company rather than the quality of your work or the skill sets you possess. This results in weak middle management.

Strong off shore model so if you don't like late night calls this may not be for you.

    Advice to Management

Promote worthy candidates. This will help the next generation of employees learn the skills necessary to advance their careers and allow them to follow in right footsteps.

    Cons

    - way, way too many irrelevant emails.
    - no clear way to resolve multiple administrative snafus.
    - over-promised my former employer, way under delivered.

    Advice to Management

    be honest.

Don't care if you want to stay with company or leave company.
    No transperancy in appraisals.
Lacking in carrier growth timely reviews.
Benefits are ok. But you need to have good relationship in top management. Many things require Director and above approval.

I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very easy company to work for. Not a lot of micro management. Visibility into many different areas.

    Cons

I worked there over 10 years and lived in one city the entire time. Once my project was over and I was faced with bench, Cognizant showed their true colors. If you are not willing to RELOCATE with each new project you will be terminated (and most locations are not glamorous). There is ZERO loyalty towards the employees. Practically no projects allow travel. Cognizant's value add to it's clients is local talent (at even the detriment to said talent). You are surely just a number in this company with over 200k employees worldwide. Even at the higher levels you are then discriminated against because your level can be viewed as too high for project work. Internally it's a mess too. No advocates. No names no faces. Plenty of un-returned emails. It's the true culture of this place.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Just because you own the work Visas of the majority of your US employees doesn't mean you do so for all. You cannot/should not assume your workforce will move for a role. It is VERY short sighted and you can only make money off of cheap labor for so long. PS I thought in order to have an H1B there had to be a skillset that was not available in the U.S. Somehow they skirt this issue well.
