I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was lucky to have good and hard working people in the teams that I was involved with, but everything else wan't so simple.

    Cons

Very political and inefficient way to get things done. Instead of facilitating your job, they love to add unnecessary speed bumps, hurdles, spikes on the way to slow your work down if not impair you, and if they don't like you, even worse, they will do everything to find something to blame you and get you fired. On top, these were the issues going on.

    - Internal system is horrible, slow, and inefficient
    - Too many unqualified people in managerial or higher positions and many of them have no manners, respect for their subordinates, other teams and departments
    - They keep promoting and keeping toxic, control freak people who doesn't really do the job because they don't really know what to do (they can't even write a single proper sentence and misspell a lot), and let go the good people who actually do the job (if you talk to higher ups or HR about these issues, then you are let go instead of following the protocol to solve the problem)
    - Sadly, some of those toxic people also bully around and eventually get those people who they have been bullying fired
    - Too much unnecessary micromanaging going on
    - They have people on work visa with less qualifications and experience to manage and supervise USCs who have much more experience and knowledge in the job - TOTAL NONSENSE
    - Too many employees on work visa in non-technical or non-skillful positions
    - Too many inexperienced and unqualified employees in work visas and visa sponsorship
    - Too many contractors and NIVs employees vs permanent employees
    - They give priority and favoritism to "Indian" people, and non-Indians are the first ones to be let go
    - There are people who made big, crucial and costly mistakes who are never punished because they are buddies with top management and gets "immunity" for the mistake. Meanwhile, others around had to work on to fix their mistakes
    - There isn't really any diversity in the company, very superficial and minimum
    - The company focuses too much on numbers instead of doing the proper way
    - There are no work relevant information cooperation between different teams, they work very much in silos
    - A lot of expenses could be saved if the departments worked together
    - Salaries and raises are unfair as it is based on who they like in the team and not who has experience, qualifications and does the job. There are people with no experience whatsoever making close if not higher than some managers
    - Hiring process also is based who they like and not who is qualified
    - Stressful environment due to job uncertainty and layoffs are going on

    Advice to Management

Obviously tackle the issues mentioned above. Get rid of incompetent people, get a better HR team and someone who is not afraid to execute the policies and someone who has "strategic HR" background. And top executives should back up HR team to follow with the procedures.

    Pros

Got a lot of IT experience right from the start, great team members, got to advance my technical skill set. If you are motivated and seek out opportunity, it is there.

    Cons

the college program is almost luck of the draw. not very flexible with projects. only consulting firm i know of that makes you relocate every year for projects, does not fly in and out like most consulting firms.

    Advice to Management

don't over hire college students and then have us on the bench for 4 months.

I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Entrepreneurial environment, where people are generally empowered to make decisions and execute. Very friendly / laid back culture, good leadership at the top, with a clear vision of where the market and company are going. Truly global company (east meets west), very flexible work arrangements (built into the company DNA).

    Cons

Lack of investment in internal process/systems, combined with outdated policies/facilities and poorly-designed technology (ironic for a tech company!), lead to an inconsistent employee experience. Also while top management is great with vision and direction, they are not mature enough to understand the need for systematic change management in such a large org. Good intentions with inconsistent execution slow down this (otherwise good) company's ability to transform.

    Advice to Management

Put more energy and resources into executing change vs expecting people to figure it out. Invest in HR systems/processes/policies to be more consistent and competitive.
