I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Exposure to a variety of opportunities
    Responsibility from the get go
A good place to develop as a new starter

    Cons

    Zero company culture
    No diversity whatsoever
Lack of spirit / sense of community
    Employees are treated like numbers
    Promotion cycle is a farce
    Low salary vs. Market rate

    Advice to Management

Value your employees and give them a sense of belonging
Reward good performance - the beauracracy when it comes to promotions is incredibly demoralising
Be more open to diversity; what culture there is Cognizant encourages uniformity and stifles individualism
Treat your on-shore employees with care or they won’t stay

I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time

    Pros

    > Modern office with daily spread of breakfast items, fruit and Nespresso machines
    > Few decent colleagues and interesting internal work

    Cons

The biggest con working for Cognizant is the concentration of Indian men at the very top levels of the organisation. There is blatant racism against women, and non-indians in the form of lessened opportunities. Other cons include directors who try and push off work on junior resources, overspend on their budgets and overall do not know how to manage teams. The performance review process is biased and unfair, not to mention extremely vague. Too much hierarchy, gossip and work politics. Cognizant lost a lot of work in Q4 2016 and Q1 2017 so they are trying to lay off employees to cut their costs, without realising that they are suffering from a damaged reputation and no price can be placed on that. Really a pathetic work culture, where mistakes are blamed on others instead of being learned from.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Directors who are not producing results, and protect the junior resources who are overworked and underpaid. Don't allow politics in the workplace.

    Pros

I AM NO LONGER WORKING FOR COGNIZANT.

    Cons

Too many to mention, but here goes: they over-work each consultant, with very little pay for the level of work being demanded. They do not give you an opportunity to adapt to the culture of the company. They use you as a body shop as they do not have their own projects. Managers only care about receiving client revenue, and do not even care about the individual working on the project, earning them that money. Cognizant have a HIRE AND FIRE mentality. They use you until the project is underway, and then hire cheaper offshore labour. Their UK HR department is a JOKE! Don't expect any respect or appreciation of industry HR rules. There is no work-life balance at all, so don't expect to see your family, if you work here.

    Advice to Management

Follow industry rules, and actually consider that your employees are real people with real lives, outside of your company.

I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time

    Pros

There are very few Pros to working for Cognizant beyond the fact that the salary gets paid on time every month.

If you want to progress in your career do not join this company. They literally could not care less about the careers, health and welfare of their staff. Senior managers treat more junior staff like serfs, to be shipped on to the next client site with no interest in their own ambitions or goals.

    Cons

The list of cons is very large
-The organisation has absolutely no interest in staff career progression. It is solely about whether you are billing or not
-Line management is non existent. I have had more career chats and coaching from my client in the last 18 months
-Staff have no influence on where their next assignment is. I was pressurized at one point to take a role as a BA having just lead the tech work stream for a multi million £ banking regulatory programme
-Not a meritocracy. Promotion is based on time served and whether you are in favour offshore or not
-It is one of the least diverse organisations I have ever worked for, senior women and other minorities are not visible at all. Most mid to high level management jobs taken by middle aged Indian men
-Account management when on site is terrible. Account managers generate invoices, literally nothing else
-Back office systems are chaotic with huge amounts of data duplication and constant demands for the same information
-Tidal waves of utterly inane emails from support functions that have no relevance at all to front line staff
-Benefits are terrible with only (not great) pension and death in service worth having. There is no leave purchase scheme at all.

    Advice to Management

-realise that your staff have ambitions and goals and that they will leave if you don't help people acheive them
-You need to understand the cultural differences between India and other geographies
-Get a grip on internal processes and systems
-Invest in some decent quality account managers
-Improve the diversity of the organisations
    -Make the organisation more meriocratic

"A body shop for low-grade consulting engagements"

I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was absolutely nothing positive about the company. Staff turnover was like the revolving door at a large department store. Many good people whom I spoke to felt unappreciated and underpaid and therefore left shortly after they had joined the company. This is not the sort of employer whom one could develop a strong career with or obtain job satisfaction from.

    Cons

Hugely bureaucratic and inflexible culture riddled with internal politics and in-fights between teams and departments. Strong performance isn't recognised or rewarded and employees are taken good care of on an overall level. Culture of the workforce may be diverse in certain locations but glass ceiling was so blatant that management wasn't bothered the slightest to hide it. Although it has a large global presence, it is still run very much as an Indian company that focuses more on delivering low-cost service than good quality. Massively asymmetrical remuneration structure in the workforce where meritocracy was underrated and entrepreneurialism was virtually non-existent. The company was nothing but an enlarged body shop for cheap and low-grade consulting service based on traditional system integrator capabilities.

    Advice to Management

You need to realise the fact that people are at the centre of your business. In order to attract and retain talent, you must fundamentally change the company culture and the way in which the company is governed and managed. From what I saw, your company has made every single classic key managerial and operational errors in business school case studies.

    Pros

Good experience across the different verticals, training, etc. Ive been with the company for over 5 years and it has lost everything i found was amazing. Its just another organization to me.

    Cons

very ego'ish, mainly run from offshore.. so cultural challenge. The managers i came across especially from offshore use the "bully by management" technique. Communication is very poor from top to bottom. Its intensely political and i feel you have to work harder at the politics to be noticed and appreciated vs the quality of work you perform.

    Advice to Management

the senior management team really need to appreciate their 2nd levels and communicate and minimise the political play - because you will lose good people.

    Pros

This is very hard to write up, but the only pro I can think of was to leave the company as soon as possible.

    Cons

Extremely arrogant management. Pay is poor whilst the company profits from the slave labour rates given. No scope for career progression. Poor exit interviews where your supposed line manager turns up for the first time. Poor work life balance.

    Advice to Management

You need to work on making the business a success. Not profitability. Also you need to send senior and middle management for more training ad the level of their knowledge is, to be polite, pathetic
