    Pros

    Good Salary & Yearly Hike

    Cons

Promotions aren't given to deserving candidates. Promotions are given based on visibility to Cognizant senior management but not the clients

Cognizant senior management in the account wont involve in day to day deliverables. hence they are not in any position to know who does well.

No value for talent and hard work.

Appraisal system is not fair one.

    Advice to Management

Please change Management style. so many managers are just man managers, They don't contribute anything to the project. ensure these guys until SM level are involved in the project

    Pros

You can learn new technology if you are lucky to get good projects.
Good work style if in T&M projects

    Cons

    You need to serve the
    1) Client
    2) Horizontal manager
    3) Vertical Manager.
They will play politics with you.
If you're at onsite then difficult to get promotion
    Pathetic place to work.

    Advice to Management

Too many managers. Remove vertical and horizontal concepts

I have been working at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large company, with a growing awareness in the market. Has some good ties with industry. Large enough a company, where some talented individuals exist.

    Cons

.... so large that many of the employees aren't very competent at their roles, and have been lost due to the sheer size of the company. Weeding out the serial poor performers needs to be done as it is truly impacting their reputation in the marketplace. Too many a time, I have worked with poorly skilled people, and the client has criticised our overall ability as a team.

Very poor recognition structure in place. Biased towards metrics which are superficial in most ways. Example of this is internal development / initiatives where people do pointless exercises to purely tick a box, but with little to no value add whatsoever.

Middle management (of which there are many!) are in the vast majority unaware of what they are meant to be doing. I have never seen such a large group of management, with no direction in the one company.

There is also a very ruthless sales and sales allocation agenda, where everyone who has sales targets will fight tooth and nail for every little crumb available.

    Advice to Management

Have a cull of all the people who don't bring any real benefit to the company. Growing for the sake of growing but with no real direction isn't doing you any favours. Incompetence is losing you the respect of your clients.

    Pros

Fast growing, opportunities for advancement in projects

    Cons

Reliant on a handful of individuals to deliver, majority of staff sold to clients are not as skilled/experienced as sold.

    Advice to Management

Look after your client facing staff, undertake some proper governance of Indian based staff around skills, expertise and grades at which they operate.

    Pros

Some very good people, skills and work ethic

    Cons

Matrix organization lead to different prioritization and concept of delivery, not always aligned leading to different levels of performance

    Advice to Management

Align matrix organization so that horizontal, verticals, operations and sales work to the same goals and are truly accountable to each other in a transparent manner
