I worked at Cognizant Technology Solutions full-time

    Pros

-flat hiearchial structure, senior management within practice approachable
-possible for stronger employees to stand out but every individual has to take an initiative
-Relatively easy to switch teams or practices (probably the only strong positive for those uncertain about career track)
-Entrepreneurial culture with opportunity to contribute new ideas

    Cons

-incredibly bureaucratic and slow career progression
-projects aren't great - seen largely as a System Integrator and majority work as resources on implementation projects. Very few projects in UK are fully run by Cognizant
-Very few SMEs with consulting experience within Financial Services. Large number of generalist BAs, some of which have come from offshore team.
-High performers leave after gaining some experience as general standard of people isn't very high
-Projects are heavily focused on implementation with little opportunity to influence or shape, and hence also difficult to define one's career track.
-Strategic decision making influenced by the US, making it difficult to form strategic partnerships with startups, new vendors

    Advice to Management

-Focus on retaining stronger talent. Ultimately the brand and image will improve if the quality of people improve
-Create a programme for identifying and rewarding high performance individuals (salary is below industry average unless it is negotiated upwards only after employees decide on leaving)

    Pros

very similar to any other Indian IT companies, difference being you have more onsite roles available, both in p/l and billability

    Cons

would love to see more diverse senior management accross geographies.
