I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Work Life balance + benefits: of course everyone has days where you have to stay late, just part of being a working person, but I can honestly say that CW has a work life balance. You never have to stay too late and it's dependent on how well you can get your work done throughout the day. There's a good PTO policy and summer fridays. Very very rarely do you have to work on your days off. Team environment: everyone...

    Cons

The promotion cycle: for years, CW has had a "cycle" system, where you're promoted on how long you've been at the company and it's not based on merit. They only promote two times throughout the year and never any other time. Not the best, but at least you know you'll eventually be promoted if you do a good job. Some clients are can be very demanding and upper management doesn't push back when they should to protect...

    Advice to Management

Good work should lead to promotions and bonuses. The people who work hard should be recognized for doing good work to retain talent.

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-The hours aren’t so bad (compared to a lot of PR firms) -Generally the staff is nice -They give you alcohol on Fridays at 4PM

    Cons

-Whenever anyone is very stressed they can be extremely rude -lack of opportunity for career growth -lack of learning opportunities -the newer employees don’t get much respect -you are tasked with large projects and given barely any time to do them

    Advice to Management

Value your newer employees as you told them you would and show them the respect that they were told they would get before joining C&W. Also provide the learning opportunities you said there would be. Don’t over promise and under deliver.

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    - Lots of internal resources and client opportunities on a global scale - Atmosphere is fun and fast paced

    Cons

    - Fast pace leads to disorganized management - HR doesn't always get back to you - Understaffed. Most have more client work then they can handle - Work-life balance is non-existent

    Advice to Management

Prioritize professional growth and hire more staff!

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

C&W provides an environment that allows junior team members to reach up/take on things above their level, if they are interested in doing so. As long as they can show that they are capable of doing the work, a lot of trust and responsibility is placed on the junior team, which can lead to great opportunities (think AAEs traveling to Barcelona with their team or San Diego for medical meetings and getting lots of client...

    Cons

The healthcare practice has experienced some major growth in the past several years, which has lead to some growing pains. The senior team is definitely invested in making sure that these don't impact staff, but there is only so much they can do. With such significant growth comes under staffing issues, which can put a strain on staff. At times, the environment can seem a bit political, although generally this isn't...

    Advice to Management

I think people really like when you're transparent about some of the growing pains we've faced and how you plan to address them. You tend to do a good job of this in monthly staff meetings, town halls, etc., so keep doing what you're doing.

    Pros

Really collaborative culture. Small teams allow for junior staffers to do higher level work.

    Cons

    Raises aren't great.

    Advice to Management

Careful about putting people on too many accounts at once.

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe

    Pros

C&W was and still is my first job out of college, and it has been such an amazing experience. Everyone here is hard working, but knows how to play hard as well! The company culture is fantastic, with off-site practice activities every quarter. C&W really cares about your career growth, and is very attentive to our needs as employees.

    Cons

No cons - if you are searching for a positive PR agency experience, this is the place to be!

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

C&W has some of the most creative minds in the industry, and I'm constantly inspired by the energy and talent of those I'm surrounded by. Additionally, the environment is not political which means we can focus on doing work that's rewarding, rather than draining energy navigating egos (as I've seen elsewhere).

      Cons

Compensation is on par with industry standards, but not above.

      Advice to Management

Continue offering employees opportunities for growth and benefits that match the work put in!

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Some nice colleagues; Summer Friday's (but you can't actually HAVE them!)

      Cons

Vindictive supervisors, no work life balance, low pay, miscommunication, high turnover rate of staff at every level.

      Advice to Management

Things may have shifted, but when I was at Cohn & Wolfe in SF the hours were nuts and all our supervisors seemed to have very little connection to staff. Management was removed from daily life, leading to unreasonable expectations of our team. They also held onto one particular manager to made life hell for many of us (lots of crying in the bathroom). I lasted just under a year before I gave my notice.

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Great learning experience, they do a good job of hiring people who fit in with the practice- smart, hard working, obviously very personable. Clear path for growth and raises and promotions, in time.

      Cons

This is true of industry overall, but there is zero focus on employee retention. The amount of turnover here is disturbing for employees and for clients. This leads to constant lack of consistency in directives from account leadership to junior staffers and leads to a lot of frustration. Another thing is that the raises are offensive. You have people coming in at your level who are new to that level/account/company who...

      Advice to Management

Pay your employees who show loyalty to you by not jumping ship when it is time for a promotion at the same rates as the new people you bring in. What you do now breeds a lot of dissatisfaction and leads current employees to feel taken advantage of.
