I worked at Cohn & Wolfe

    Pros

Cohn & Wolfe is a great place to work because of the brilliant employees. I learned so much in my tenure as an intern in Austin because of the teams. Everyone is extremely sharp and hard-working, and it's a great place to sharpen professional PR skills. The agency also boasts big names on their client list that look impressive on any resume. All in all, there are many cons to this company but the pros outweigh them.

    Cons

There is a general lack of communication in the entire Austin office, in every way. Seriously. There would be days where I walked into a silent office and said hello and got no response because everyone was working. Instead of speaking openly to someone sitting across a cubicle from you, people sent emails and it felt very impersonal. Though everyone seemed to be very friendly, many of the employees gossiped about each...

    Advice to Management

Have a better system for training interns rather than giving them heaps of papers or numerous website links to educate themselves.

  2. "Only Worth It For The Pay (Maybe)"

      Former Employee - Intern

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe

      Pros

      - Paid, unlike most PR internships - Some interesting intern trainings - Dog friendly - Nice office view - Supervisor program (depends on your supervisor though) - You'll leave the company at the end of your internship - Interns strictly not allowed to do work outside of established intern hours

      Cons

      - Minimum communication between account leads and interns - Confusing and unclear instructions from account leads for tasks - Unbalanced work- either too much or too little - Office layout and furniture. Very boring with little decor makes for a boring work environment - Surprising lack of resources. Only one Cision account for all interns to use - HR manager

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe for more than a year

      Pros

Good work-life balance, but it's expected of you to stay late. Occasionally get to sit in on brainstorms, but they don't ever sit you with the client. Good break room stocked with snacks.

      Cons

On the smaller end, so gaining a job after the internship is unexpected. They won't introduce you to the client, so often you will feel left out. Pay is on the lower end.

      Advice to Management

      Give important work to interns

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe

      Pros

Great, talented people to work with.

      Cons

I really loved working there, though It seemed to be difficult to move up the ranks in the company. Often hired from outside instead of promoting from the bottom.

      Advice to Management

Company seems very top heavy with a small supporting staff. If everyone is a VP, who will do their support work?

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe

      Pros

Other interns were great, location was fantastic. Some of the VPs were willing to mentor, the subject matter of work was good.

      Cons

Definite hierarchy in the office. They say they will hire you and then don't. They give very little, if any, feedback on performance.

      Advice to Management

Give feedback on a regular basis with a set review period, don't leave employees guessing. Don't say one thing and do another. Integrate levels of experience.
