I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe

    Pros

Cohn & Wolfe is a great place to work. As a member of the Healthcare practice, i feel the leadership team does a wonderful job at not only leading the agency to success over and over again but at the same time really caring about their staff and helping to continue the trajectory of junior staffers' careers. Senior team is easily accessible and open to listening to concerns and desires of each staffer and is genuinely...

    Cons

The personal review process can use refining, but managers tend to do a good job at facilitating that and ensuring people understand any issues as well as successes on an ongoing basis. Also, due to the size of the agency, physical space can sometimes be a struggle.

    Pros

C&W provides an environment that allows junior team members to reach up/take on things above their level, if they are interested in doing so. As long as they can show that they are capable of doing the work, a lot of trust and responsibility is placed on the junior team, which can lead to great opportunities (think AAEs traveling to Barcelona with their team or San Diego for medical meetings and getting lots of client...

    Cons

The healthcare practice has experienced some major growth in the past several years, which has lead to some growing pains. The senior team is definitely invested in making sure that these don't impact staff, but there is only so much they can do. With such significant growth comes under staffing issues, which can put a strain on staff. At times, the environment can seem a bit political, although generally this isn't...

    Advice to Management

I think people really like when you're transparent about some of the growing pains we've faced and how you plan to address them. You tend to do a good job of this in monthly staff meetings, town halls, etc., so keep doing what you're doing.

    Pros

    - Supportive environment with many opportunities to learn and grow - Diverse clients and projects - A focus on collaborative (and fun!) company culture - Location

    Cons

    - Limited creative resources (video producer, designers) - Heavy workload

    Pros

Wonderful collaborative environment, strong clients, good regional offices, strong discipline to make sure creative ideas are driven by insights

    Cons

Entrepreneurial pace - which means there's lots and lots of work (like any sought-after agency should be)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on insight-driven creativity; it's a compelling differentiator

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe full-time

    Pros

I’ve found that the work/life balance is stellar and senior management is fair as well as very generous with PTO and flexibility in family urgency situations. Team work is encouraged and there’s a healthy competition among individual teams striving to deliver the best, award-winning work for their clients. There's a healthy appetite for new business, but a constant focus on maintaining and growing existing clients which...

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe

    Pros

I've worked at the company for 5+ years and still don't feel that I've hit a ceiling. There is ample room for professional growth and development, with dedicated senior leadership that takes an active interest in mentoring employees at all levels. Each office location has a distinct look and feel, but there is a shared theme across all (domestic and global) that focuses on - and fosters - collaboration, creativity, and...

I have been working at Cohn & Wolfe full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Work Life balance + benefits: of course everyone has days where you have to stay late, just part of being a working person, but I can honestly say that CW has a work life balance. You never have to stay too late and it's dependent on how well you can get your work done throughout the day. There's a good PTO policy and summer fridays. Very very rarely do you have to work on your days off. Team environment: everyone...

    Cons

The promotion cycle: for years, CW has had a "cycle" system, where you're promoted on how long you've been at the company and it's not based on merit. They only promote two times throughout the year and never any other time. Not the best, but at least you know you'll eventually be promoted if you do a good job. Some clients are can be very demanding and upper management doesn't push back when they should to protect...

    Advice to Management

Good work should lead to promotions and bonuses. The people who work hard should be recognized for doing good work to retain talent.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Cohn & Wolfe

    Pros

The people there are what it's all about, some really great individuals. A large variety of clients too.

    Cons

Like many other agencies, they try to run their LA and SF offices together too much. It just doesn't work. There's little leadership in the west.

    Advice to Management

If they haven't already, separating the LA and SF offices would be powerful. Also, not having account leads that work remotely from a home office.
