I worked at Coles part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

none at all for this company

    Cons

horrible place to work, nom existent safety practices, non listening managers, don't care about staff, area managers don't care, unrealistic expectations, equipment doesn't work properly, have to miss breaks to get job done, none practices, overloaded crates, trucks, use esky for frozen that melt items. I`m surprised the govt health departments have`nt been involved. dangerous night driving. put employees safety at risk. do yourself a favour and don't get involved with this company.

    Advice to Management

respect your staff, listen, filter out the cancerous managers

    Pros

No carrer opportunity for the future progression

    Cons

No mutual coordination’s between staffs on time

    Advice to Management

If coles wont fix this soon, coles itself let the store backwards on making customer relationships.

I worked at Coles full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay but it's probably to compensate for everything else

    Cons

Bad work culture, politics in store and upper management, negative team members all around the store because of cut hours to save costs, workers on salary are abused - expected to work over time (10-14 hour days) to save costs because people on salary don't get overtime pay and also to cover team members who are sick so sometimes you could be working on your day off. They expect you to devote your life for Coles and only Coles

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone nicely and choose your employees wisely because they can have a negative effect on those who are actually valuable to the company

I worked at Coles full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Graduate/DM salaries good
Meet some great team members who want to do a great job
Graduate program is versatile - have the opportunity to work in all positions

    Cons

General attitude in stores that graduates are 'skipping the queue' and stealing management jobs from people who have worked hard for years
Zero work/life balance from DM position and up
Seems like everyone in the company is physically exhausted
No structure to graduate program - often feel like you're just being used to fill the rostering gaps in stores
No one is actually accountable for graduate development at store level
Not enough investment in team member rosters
Reward and recognition is lip service - thank you cards are not enough

    Advice to Management

    Consider why graduates are leaving

I worked at Coles part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

During hiring they make you feel like it's heaven.

    Cons

It's a slavery. You have to even give a reason to go to toilet, it's a complete slavery. Suits perfect for someone who is on student visa and don't know their rights.

    Advice to Management

Every other employee is a human like you.

I have been working at Coles full-time

    Pros

Nice head office building, great location near motorways and train station.

    Cons

The worst culture I have ever seen. Strong silo mentality, extremally political environment. Nothing is done unless you are friends with the right people.
Strong hierarchy culture. You only have access to your direct manager as talking to people above your manager is considered as a back stabbing.
People are running like crazy with their laptops on hand and stressed at 07.00am pretty much every day.

    Advice to Management

Leave your ivory tower and come to the floor more often to understand the silo mentality that exists in your corporation and make a move to allow better communication and cooperation between teams.

    Pros

    Great recruitment team
    Create quality communications

    Cons

Expectation of working very long hours to get job done
Supermarket managers are very badly paid
    Bullying culture which goes unaddressed

I have been working at Coles full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employment stability working with a large company.
    They pay you on time.
Really have nothing else to add.
    At all.

    Cons

    Too many to list.
Bullying, gossiping, favourites, no work/life balance, contracts changed every few months. Given all close shifts if you don't suck up to manager. No further learning opportunities. Very boring doing checkouts for 25 years, yet others are given other depts to try. RSI from repetitive work. Injuries from trying to work quickly because you never have enough time. Head office make new guidelines that are unrealistic for store team. Head office cut hours and customers abuse checkout staff all day. Head office motto=it works on paper, so it's good for us! Spend hours trying to replace shifts. New one team system isn't used correctly.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Actually come and work in each department. Coles asks the store manager to run the service dept 1 day a year. I've never seen the manager actually do it.
