    Pros

Excellent learning experience due to the large volume of difficult issues and people to manage on an hour by hour basis

    Cons

When I joined Coles the consensus among my previous colleagues was "Why would you want to do that ????". My response was I know it is going to be bad but I want the career growth and challenge. I expected my Coles employment to begin poorly and get worse to the point where it becomes unworkable. Coles talk a lot about meeting expectations, well they have met mine perfectly. No sign of any improvement.

    Advice to Management

Where does one begin..........maybe management are happy grinding their good employees into pulp whilst delivering the main objective of their existence being the annual profit commitment. There are so many issues I do not have the space to list them. Perhaps a comment might be don't be surprised when other competitors that can unlock the human spirit come along and make you look 3rd class.

I have been working at Coles full-time

    Pros

Discount on weekly groceries, free parking, campus style head office, gym onsite, massive supermarket next door, nice food court and coffee area onsite

    Cons

Micro management. Aggressive work practices. Clock watching. Avoid working in the procurement team as it really is not worthwhile in any way at the moment.

    Advice to Management

The middle layer of GMs and Heads Of need to make decisions rather than avoid doing so

I worked at Coles part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    It's paid employment
Some genuine people but mainly everyone is looking out for themselves
    Only the strong will survive......
Mental health will be put to the limit

    Cons

The clique and mean girls culture
The bullies snivel to managers so they get away with doing minimum work and maximum gossiping and delegating the physical work to people who won't ask questions.

    Advice to Management

Get HR to do a random but private interview of Staff. Everyone is terrified to speak up!!!!

    Pros

large company, will never lose job through redundancy, pay fairly well

    Cons

often expect the impossible, want a particular standard but don't give the tools or man hours to achieve said standard

    Advice to Management

invest more hours into service, the only differentiating factor between competition

I have been working at Coles part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I honestly would never recommend Coles to anyone and feel sorry for the poor people that still work there

    Cons

Injured myself due to work but not at work and after 5 years of crappy employment working hard I was told that after 12 months of rehab I was no longer on their books and I had no job because I was "uncontactable" never received a phone call email or letter ....thanks Coles

    Advice to Management

Look after your employees better the whole reason I hurt myself was because we were forced to go faster and faster to accomplish unachievable goals

    Pros

5 per cent discount for staff woohoo

    Cons

I have been treated like a piece of dirt from all old lady managers since the day I started working there, staff who have been working longer seen to have no responsibilities and walk around doing nothing while young new staff are yelled at for asking to use the bathroom. After a 7 hour shift u are only given a 15 minute break, and are required to stand still lifting heavy items for the rest of the 6 hours and 45 minutes straight. The managers are condescending and immature and like to talk bad about customers in front of them. It is the worst place to work and I have had jobs in fast food, retail and sales for huge companies and never have I been spoken to with such disregard.

    Advice to Management

Finally retire and stop torturing teenagers

I have been working at Coles full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a stable position as long as you are not a store manager. Staff on wages are the strongest and laziest group. Hardworking wage staff are few and far between

    Cons

Long hours. No recognition from senior management. Store management under too much pressure to cut hours due to unrealistic hourly rate targets

    Advice to Management

Either negotiate lower pay rates or set realistic hourly rate targets. Do not expect a store manager to stern and direct while still expecting the store to love their manager
