I have been working at Coles full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A dynamic environment that is faced paced and challenging. Great developmental environment to grow your skills. Ticks all the boxes for exposure to the FMCG sector.

    Cons

Long term legacy team with a blue collar mentality dislike change and are suspicious of “outsiders”. As far as they’re concerned if you haven’t humped boxes around you have nothing to contribute.

    Advice to Management

To attract the external talent you need to keep up with the evolution of competitors requires an overhaul to the store structure and more credit given to thinking, planning and strategy rather than the physical aspect of putting cartons on shelves.

I worked at Coles part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked in service department for 8 years. Good hourly rate for easy work, friendly team, very flexible hours.

    Cons

Favouritism, no opportunity for advancement unless you are there for 20 years and/or get friendly with management, gossip, work is repetitive and boring, customers can be very rude and grumpy (no one really likes grocery shopping).

    Advice to Management

Better communication with team, favour people based on their skills/how good they are at the job not whether they are your friend or not.

    Pros

    Good starting salary. Thats it.

    Cons

Political environment, alot of cutting to get ahead. You need to know someone to go up (not based on skills and abilities).

    Advice to Management

Speak to your employees and their concerns. Stop putting profits ahead of staff wellbeing
