I worked at Coles full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of nice people in stores.
    Learnt a lot
Flexibility to work at stores and from home
    IT department responsive and helpful
    Great Head Office Christmas party!
Lot's of opportunity if willing to work long hours

    Cons

    Frequent changes in direction/measures/kpi's
    Cut throat
Very long hours expected especially by those working in stores
    Very high stress environment

    Advice to Management

Consider peoples lives outside of work, especially those working extremely hard both physically and mentally to just feed their families and pay a mortgage. Reduce the gap in pay between those in stores and management.

I worked at Coles part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Close to home, building has sprinklers and fire exits.

    Cons

Worst company I've ever worked for. Many staff are miserable and grumpy. Disrespected, often not paid when load is not finished and you work back. Ive been bullied on several occasions at more than one store. On one occasion I was assaulted. I submitted a formal complaint on this occasion and I received no acknowledgement of this. This was when I was employed in a former store as a casual. I never received a response and my casual hours were cut then the person who assaulted me gained my hours. Often underpaid and treated with contempt and total disrespect by "superiors". Middle mgmt is often treated atrociously by senior mgmt. Store mgr bonus needs to be reformatted. If they don't pay people what they're owed it's seen as a saving and they're rewarded with significant bonuses. I never cease to be shocked by behaviours I witness at work in this day and age.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff what they're entitled to. Learn that people respond to appropriate and professional behaviour and bring treated like they have some worth. Remember it is the 21st century. Movement between stores needs to be made simpler. Bullying and underpayment of staff is an offence. Greater union presence is required in workplaces. Days in lieu owing need to be shown on mycoles payment statement to ensure staff are aware of entitlements. Communications need to be written to ensure openness and honesty. Store vacancies need to be posted on mycoles to allow for people to leave troubled stores which will highlight the greater need for attention in these areas. HR need to play a greater role in transfers and staffing matters.

I worked at Coles part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, 5% discount at Wesfarmers companies such as Kmart, Target, First Choice and double flybys points for team members.

    Cons

Management was a joke, caring more about budgets and bonuses rather than having sufficient staff on to handle the work load resulting in unhappy, rude customers therefore resulting in being unhappy in the workplace. Rosters were changed (again because of the budget) so one person had a huge work load at the end of the night which was stressful and at times felt unfair.

    Advice to Management

Care more about staff and stop playing favourites or holding personal grudges against particular people for no reason.

I have been working at Coles full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good on your Resume but not a good culture

    Cons

Monday's - 6am starts but don't get to leave early. Regular 7am or7:30am meetings. Long hours. Demanding. Thankless. Lack of induction. Heavily reporting based roles. Very low engagement scores. If you take a job here make sure you understand your expected start times etc. Negotiate properly as you use your own car and fuel for travel to all stores across the state.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and open about the hours. Don't just expect people to be open to 6am starts.. especially when they are not informed at interview stage.

I have been working at Coles full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being able to develop relationships with regular customers.

    Cons

Horrible culture, hypocritical management, will create any excuse to not pay you. Ask the world of you and turn against you if you can't provide it. Do not put yourself through the experience of working for the devil himself.

    Advice to Management

Start by actually paying your staff.

I have been working at Coles part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and OT for wage staff. Some awesome friends have been made. Not having to deal with customers. That's seriously about it

    Cons

So many to list. Management have no experience and the ones that do are cold hearted and hard to approach.
Career progression is non existent unless you know people, hard work means nothing.
Night fill staff are treated awful, the politics are disgusting. Busy bodies and gossipers in all stores I've worked at
Salary pay is a pittance and expected to work WAY over your contract with no fatigue management in place.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your staff and their concerns.
