I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Successful financially driven company
    Working mothers are offered work-life-balance
Diversity is a key focus area

    Cons

Great deal of back biting and catty atmosphere
If you don't develop relationships with the "IN CROWD" it's difficult to succeed.

    Advice to Management

Remember the caring culture that made Colgate a great place to work as the company is heading in a less caring direction. The company was always focused on profit and caring but the two are no longer synonymous.

    I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time

    Pros

Solid performing company. Few large companies have the financial performance of this company, over short- and long-term. Focused - does not stray into extraneous areas without deliberation or make trendy moves. Generally positive atmosphere to work in, with some modern-day trends coming into existence recently (work-from-home, etc.). People are proud to work for the company and many stay a long time. Makes products that make peoples lives better.

    Cons

Salaries are below-average and this is one of the worst-kept secrets at the company. Other non-salary benefits (e.g. hours, 401(k) match) offset this somewhat.
The company is very old-fashioned, and, presumably like at most companies, double-standards exist. Men still wear suits, women wear whatever they want. Atmosphere is cordial and collegial but at the same time stressful and cold - people often do not even say hello to each other in the halls. This has only gotten more pronounced with the attempt to cost-cut their way to profits and shuttle jobs oversees. Also, people are overworked (although it never gets to "sweat-shop"-type hours) and that probably adds to stress. Cost-cutting also left those who didn't get cut feeling like they had to validate their existence with "work analyses" done by high-powered consultants. There also is a veil of secrecy and guardedness from both HR and upper management.
HR is not very good on the whole and neither is IT. It's almost impossible to know where to turn with an HR question. IT service is horrendous. This has only gotten worse with the move to a Mexican shared service center.
Management skills are poor and managers are not trained to lead. Most annoying thing at the company is they pat themselves on the back so much with cliches and jargon about Managing with Respect and Colgate Values and then they cut people and let unskilled managers still exist.
Premium is placed on ethnic diversity, even to the exclusion of attaining the most diverse (university-wise) talent.

    Advice to Management

You have to have the courage of your convictions to remove people who are not managing with respect. Wake up to double standards and anachronisms, like the dress code. You should realize that trying to cut your way to prosperity will not work in the long run.

    Pros

Good compensation on Salary. Top management is very open to new ideas

    Cons

Very conservative.. People that have many years in the company doesn't want to change the ways of working. To slow to react to customers needs. The middle management doesn't want make changes

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, competitive salary, global mobility if that is what you're looking for. Flexible time off and a decent bonus structure if you can make it to EICP.

    Cons

Bureaucracy at its prime. Put your best lips on cause if your not kissing up, you might as well forget that next promotion. This is a marketing company, everything else is currently being outsourced to India in order to fund their growth because they can't seem to get their cost structure right. Severe spending inefficiencies in capex. New restructuring is so uprooting it is leaving loose ends.

    Advice to Management

Show a little appreciation for the people who made this company tick for so long, you are only hurting yourself further because now that wisdom is out the door no matter how many work activity analyses you perform.
