I have been working at College Board

    Pros

Exciting organization that's driving meaningful change at impressive scale. Opportunity to work alongside impressive and accomplished colleagues, dynamic senior leadership team who brings wide range of experiences and ideas and work at a well-established, successful non-profit. Good place for young employees who want to learn a lot about education, management and delivering positive impact at large scale. Benefits...

I worked at College Board full-time

    Pros

Learned more about standardized testing’s influence in US education

    Cons

As a customer service rep you get to learn a lot, but the hours are very strict and you have 2 set 10 min breaks, and late lunch starting at 2:30 when you first join. That is to be expected in a role like this but personally prefer more flexibility in my schedule. All in all, the job ended up not being a great fit for my interests in education and I left for a different opportunity. What I do have issue with is that HR...

I worked at College Board full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Above par benefits package - Opportunities to socialize with other departments - Great employees working in advance to the mission

    Cons

    - The mission of the organization seems misconstrued with the actual structure of the organization. From my experience, it appeared that many managers were more like sales people and focused on their sales goals and the applicable bonuses. The mission appeared to have been created to be a facade that the organization is a nonprofit instead of a for-profit corporation. For example, the CEO spent a good portion of a town...

    Advice to Management

Role clarification and effective project management is crucial to the success of a department and organization as a whole. If you are truly a nonprofit organization, ensure that your activities actually work in advance of the mission, not just your funding streams.

    Pros

    They have very good benefits.

    Cons

Upper management only takes care of upper management.

    Advice to Management

Look throughout the company for talent that is right under your nose - stop advancing those that are not loyal.

I worked at College Board full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Respectful, professional, and friendly staff, unified around causes/projects to believe in. Centrally headquartered in NYC. Excellent benefits (especially retirement plan).

    Cons

Project planning and management became chaotic due to continual policy changes and heavy workload (a fixable problem, though)

    Advice to Management

Ensure that all departments are sufficiently staffed with supporting members.

I worked at College Board full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smart people, focused on the mission of the College Board, helping students achieve success. Not the evil empire that most people believe it is.

    Cons

Old management did not care about the smaller programs. Evaluations were arbitrary and not appealable, and people often needed to move to new departments to move up.

    Advice to Management

Good luck with the new programs. It's definitely a new place with younger leadership, but they need to make sure they live up to their mission.

    Pros

The company has a great retirement plan.

    Cons

No career advancement opportunities. At all. They don't reward dedicated, hard working employees.

    Advice to Management

You want engagement to go up? Promote from within and reward hard work and success. That's it. Done.

I have been working at College Board full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company offers free drinks and a nice office. Benefits can be better than most companies.

    Cons

The whole customer service dept. has a negative energy. It is not your regular company, I noticied that management will become unprofessional at times. There is no help from management- they show a lazy but family oriented culture. which to a business professional rubs you the wrong way. The director is no-where to be foubd. When leadership shows frustration for the littlest things you as an employee start to lose confidence....

    Advice to Management

Alot of smiling in your face, but no constructive feedback. Quit the chatter, And provide actual feedback to have someone grow within a company. customer service is structured in the wrong way with leadership at top.
