I worked at College Pro full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

I did College Pro for two years, saw the reviews that were not entirely honest, and felt I should give my review. I did not run a wildly successful business and had a very hard time while running the business, but to read these reviews is a bit insulting even when I am no longer with the company. Chance to run a business and see how much work goes into it. Got to work and witness people running successful businesses...

    Cons

Extremely stressful A lot on internal competition within the franchise owners. Most is good and helpful, but many rookies call other franchise owners "bad" when they might have other things going on that prevents a successful business.

    Advice to Management

Remind the franchise owners before they go into the summer that since the are the franchise OWNERS they will need to take responsibility for their actions. The GM's should know what motivates each of their franchise owners. Most just think it is the money, but College Pro is a great learning experience and many rookies (some returners) care more about that.

I worked at College Pro full-time for more than a year

    Pros

you are able to work with friends and have a lot of freedom when it comes to how you work on the job as long as you get it done in time, fairly relaxed environment just don't get behind on your work

    Cons

how much they paid you per site was a little confusing and I heard that certain managers paid a lot less compared to mine. also, it was definitely a bit of a pyramid scheme going on so look out for that. not a bad thing necessarily definitely a lot of opportunities to make money and gain experience but they for sure tried grooming me to take over a higher position

    Advice to Management

maybe look at and test the harnesses once in a while.

I worked at College Pro full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - They take safety somewhat seriously - Opportunity to move up in the company

    Cons

    - "Budget System" rarely works, usually are paid minimum wage or slightly above. - Rushed paint jobs, never got to spend time and do a good job, rather it was about how many homes we could knock out in a short period of time. - Poor training led to several mistakes that cost time - Working long shifts into the night, typically going home exhausted - Expect you to do things without pay such as, 'training events,' and...

    Advice to Management

Overall, my College Pro Painting experience was horrible to say the least. I was told in the interview I would be making AT LEAST $15 an hour ending up making minimum wage most the time. The training was extremely minimal, my team and I were left practicing techniques on customer homes resulting in poor paint jobs and unhappy customers. Several times we cut corners so that we could 'meet the budget,' which led to sloppy...

I worked at College Pro full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - "Entrepreneur" autonomy - Flexibility - Self-employed - Learning opportunity

    Cons

There's a high risk and high probability that businesses do not succeed their first year. They target young adults, usually college students, with ambition with a hope and large promise for high payout for hard work. It's very compelling and I wouldn't say they're a scam although it's not the best opportunity for most college students in my opinion. Very hard work for a low payout or even coming out with debt.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about what students are signing up for.

I worked at College Pro for more than 4 years

      Pros

Great place to get experience as an entrepreneur. Franchisees very like minded. They share the same DNA as entrepreneurs

      Cons

Little to no support after your first year. Underfunded company, therefore royalties are high. They will sell you that you can make 60-100k in your first year. Really they are taking from a sample size of 1-2 people in the company that have the best turfs

      Advice to Management

PLEASE. give more advice to franchisees on tax consequences of running a business and STOP the delegation mindset. We run painting businesses with little to no experience. Not startups where you can run your business from home.

      Pros

Learned how to watch out for shady business and being exploited in the future

      Cons

You must be successful or you will be royally screwed. Sales targets are arbitrarily chosen at the beginning of the season and if you do not meet them you will not make any money and possibly even lose money. Problem is, you are given a "turf" an area where you must conduct all of your business (which most of the time you have no control over) and some areas are very profitable and some are atrociously bad. For example...
