I worked at College Pro full-time

    Pros

Work outside, get a tan, usually flexible

    Cons

Long hours, little pay, management does little to help painters, no reimbursement for travel costs

    Advice to Management

This business seemed like a way to scam college kids into painting houses for very little money. They tell you that you get $10/hr but in reality it is $10 per budget hour. So they are telling these inexperienced painters that they need to paint houses really fast according to the budget hours on a house in order to get paid. That leads to sloppy work. My advice would be to give a set wage and then once they become more experienced then give them a chance to work for budget hours.

I worked at College Pro full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

very fun to work for myself. Made good money painting locals houses. Everything was done by myself, it was great to know that I was my own boss

    Cons

long long days .Customer service was sometimes quite hard. Painting was easy, but the paint would stick to me and not come off for a long time. Paint got all over my car, etc

    Advice to Management

I am my own management. I would recommend knowing what you get into before you get into it. As to managing, go easy and respect employees.

I worked at College Pro part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a recruiter, you have the potential to make okay money, that is, if your willing to basically sell college student names and phone numbers. And if you can actually get teachers on campus to let you come in and talk to the students; but 99 times out of 100 you won't. Usually they say yes, until you spend your own gas money to get there, and then they just send you away.

    Cons

It's just a terrible job in general. College professors don't let a random person come in to their classroom to talk to students. And since you get paid per student, you basically end up driving around asking, only to be turned down when you get there, and in the end, not making a penny. It's a giant waste of time and money.

    Advice to Management

Don't pay commission for recruiter positions. Pay per hour, seriously! Don't make people waste their own gas money for this.

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of small business operations and customer conversations. I was lucky enough to have a terrific Regional Manager in the Iowa City Region and I learned a great deal from him as one of his Job-Site Managers. The business model is honest and successful which makes it easy to learn how to manage the customer relationship.

    Cons

I did not experience any cons.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote Jon Swearingen. He is a rising star and inspires trust with his managers.

I worked at College Pro (Less than a year)

    Pros

You learn a lot about managing a construction business

    Cons

The entire recruitment process was sketchy enough, to begin with. You earn your own money, however the majority goes back into college pro to "pay back" the equipment that they obtained for you and in royalties. There are more disastrous things that are likely to happen, when being a young adult running a painting business, than good things. Avoid this "internship"

    Advice to Management

Be more clear to all recruits about the actual job, not just the benefits.

I worked at College Pro (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work itself is great in terms of manual labor and the day goes by pretty fast when you're busy.

    Cons

Would rarely get all forty hours every week due to our manager always running late. In addition, I never received my last two checks that were supposed to be sent to my new address nor have I received access to my W-2 that I requested weeks ago! I've called customer service and even left a message to accounting with still no follow up. Completely unacceptable.

  10. "Nice summer job"

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at College Pro part-time

    Pros

Easy job to get, work with people your age

    Cons

Pay is variable dependent on how quickly crew gets jobs done; if slow crew, pay can go to minimum wage for that specific job. Conversely, if you get the job done faster, higher rate of pay. All of this is according to the budget estimated for the assigned job, so if crew completes job in faster time than estimated, pay is adjusted accordingly for the amount paid for the job.

Thanks for your feedback, we're glad you found it a good summer job... and your description of the budget pay system (also known as piece rate) is on point.
