    Positive Outlook

I worked at College of Business Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

first company that encourages volunteering with community and spends effort on it
dynamics is different than other places and at first hard to understand but then you can see why
you are challenged, in a good way
parties and retreats happen and company spends money on awards and events
if you are sincere you get recognized but if you play a game you get called out
you feel that company is trying to promote good culture

    Cons

salary is not as high as other places but they are more than fair and other places fire you quickly
sometime campus leadership does not follow company rules which is confusing and rumors start
only after you leave do you realize what was really going on and then you regret leaving
too much tension between workers who have been there for 5 plus years and those who have gone through many schools
insincere employees who only are there for paycheck makes it hard to be better
campus does not promote development even when management speaks about it over and over

    Advice to Management

keep doing the retreats and community volunteering as it is diff than other places
work on improving employee relationships between new and old
don't hire toxic people as they ruin hard work of employees and environment
don't be too transparent with employees as they talk and misinterpret message and campus leaders act like staff with rumors
try to hire back employees who left thinking grass was greener and it is not they will be more loyal and appreciate more
don't hire people who have worked for too many schools they don't know how to appreciate and work for paycheck only

    Pros

They paid me right and offered normal benefits.

    Cons

They want you to PASS students! Who says otherwise is LYING! They have favoritism -if you are from Peru like the owners you are golden!

    Advice to Management

Hired and keep people by MERIT . Management should not befriend employees! Very unprofessional. Don't penalize a professor for been strict -students are lazy ! Need to stop rumor mill and don't believe everything you hear- thtey are some mean coworkers that like to cause trouble-JEALOUSY

    Pros

I am an open minded team player with years of experience.

    Cons

I am also a bit of a perfectionist. Clean work and meeting deadlines for me is key.

    Advice to Management

I am open for almost anything.

I worked at College of Business Technology part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management is very supportive of their instructors and more that willing to find solutions. Small classroom sizes and cutting edge technology.

    Cons

To be a full time instructor requires teaching blocks of 8am-1 with a long break during the day. And then to return for another evening block of 6-10. It's a bit grueling and take a while to get used to.

I worked at College of Business Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not as bad as other vocational schools in Miami for admitting utterly and hopelessly unqualified students. You could say CBT is best of the worst.

    Cons

The nepotism is corrosive, blatant and shameless. Don't think for one moment that your efforts will be appreciated. Career advancement is impossible to those who are not blood related to the owners. Positively medieval. The school is run like a Mom & Pop hotdog stand. Compensation is the lowest among any other South Florida technical school. There is no employee training and the political environment created by the owners / administrators reveals a callousness that is truly maddening.

There is absolutely no reason to work here.

    Advice to Management

Sell the school now. You've made your millions, and now it's time to enjoy your ill gotten gains.

I worked at College of Business Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are always new things to focus on and the job is never boring. There is great interaction between departments and the employee's are generally good people. Upper management genuinely cares about the student experience and constantly seeks improvement

    Cons

On the surface, the college does not compensate the average employee fairly. Many of the policies regarding compensation, overtime, vacations, etc. are unfairly balanced against the average worker. There is a definite lack of training for new employees and management is not held accountable for poor decisions or actions.

    Advice to Management

Diversify upper management gene pool. If CBT is to get out of the "Small Business" mindset and push the envelope, CBT needs more diversity. The employee's see the interaction between upper management and can feel when the tension is very high.

I worked at College of Business Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

An opportunity to use my skills and help others succeed.

    Cons

CBT only likes to pay the cheapest wages possible. Even if you have the skills, it does not matter, pay minimum wage to someone with less skills.

    Advice to Management

You need a large amount of money dedicated to library resources for students and faculty.

    Pros

Workmates and colleagues are great people, fun to work with. Everybody is invested into making the best out of everything.

    Cons

Compensation is below average compared to other private colleges. They rarely raise the salary, which makes this a place to work, but not to stay or grow.

I worked at College of Business Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Probably a campus close to your home so your commute may be very short.

    Cons

Poor salary, meager benefits ($500.00-700.00 a month to add a spouse to your health plan), firings take place regularly and usually without notice - at least twice a month on average. Highly unskilled and ignorant upper management, including the owners. This company actively engages in nepotism and cliques develop within campuses creating a hostile work environment filled with gossip. Only 3 vacation OR sick days a YEAR are allowed and very few holidays are observed. Lots of extra-curricular work days on weekends and evenings required as well. When they post a job, they don't even identify their company name, this is a clue that they are well aware of their reputation! A previous reviewer wrote "family oriented" - the correct term for this is nepotism - as well as the presence of intolerant religious leanings by owners. This is also one of the worst managed companies I've ever seen and is actually worth and academic study. It would be worth it for Business schools at universities to use this company as an example of what NOT to do in almost every aspect!

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to pretend you care about your employees, it is incredibly fake and annoying and everyone sees right through it (except maybe all your relatives which you've given jobs to). Employee retention is your biggest problem. Offer a better work environment, better salaries, better benefits, and you'll get better quality employees you can train and work with, but the complete turn over of all your staff every year is your greatest downfall.
