I worked at College of Mount Saint Vincent part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked in the ESL dept. Fellow staff were wonderful - very, very kind, intelligent people. Management was helpful, lots of materials if you needed. You followed a curriculum but you also had freedom to be your own teacher.

    Cons

Hard to get to if you life outside northern Bronx without a car. Took me 2 hours commute each way. It was worth it but if I worked long term I don´t know if I could do it.

    Advice to Management

None, they did a great job.

    Pros

Very collaborative, with an incredibly beautiful campus, wonderful students, and lots of opportunities to grow in your career. Small enough that you get to know everyone; personal and intimate; generally people are very supportive across divisions. Programs and facilities continue to grow and be improved.

    Cons

Limited staffing and resources make work more challenging than is necessary; investments in facilities continues to outpace investments in staff and benefits.

    Advice to Management

Focus resources on keeping good people and growing their capacity to achieve goals. Growth is within reach but burnout an issue.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at College of Mount Saint Vincent full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance is good. Not much more. The grounds are beautiful. Sisters of Charity are absolutely wonderful!

    Cons

Students with learning disabilities accepted even though this is not a school geared towards teaching those students. Facilities are old, athletics are emphasized even though this is a D-3 school. Money has been wasted on remodeling athletic facilities while dorms go untouched. Sad state of affairs.

    Advice to Management

If students with learning disabilities are going to be accepted hire faculty that are certified to teach them. Do not force them to take loans that they have no chance to pay back when they fail out of the college.

I worked at College of Mount Saint Vincent full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Lovely campus outside of NYC

    Cons

The President went on a firing spree during my time there -- many faculty members, administrators and staff (many who had been there over 20 years) were harassed and/or let go. The best way to keep a job there is to buddy up to him and let him trust you.

    Pros

Working there really didn't feel like a job. Everyday something different came along. There was never a dull moment.

    Cons

Sometimes the staff can be really narrow minded and not realize that the administration is really helping them.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!
