I worked at College of Western Idaho part-time

    Pros

It's very easy to be able to balance work and school. Your hours are very flexible and you can work with your supervisor on when you can and can't come in. Your pay is also usually very good

    Cons

You are limited to only working 19 hours a week.

I worked at College of Western Idaho full-time

    Pros

Ability to have an impact on the community. Being able to help students - especially non-traditional.

    Cons

Low advancement/growth potential. Only minor percentage raises. Pay discussion was off-limits.

    Advice to Management

Advice is the same as they receive every year - communication.

I worked at College of Western Idaho part-time

    Pros

This position was very flexible with my busy fulltime schedule as a student! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They offered me guidance throughout my various decisions as a student trying to define my career path.

    Cons

The pay was very low. The technology and processes felt very out-of-date which was disappointing because I was trying to learn the latest, most innovative means of working within a relatively new business.

    Pros

GREAT staff and faculty. The students are the best! Very exciting to work in this college and see the faces of the future going above and beyond. Staff to staff is very helpful at every campus. SW Idaho is so much better off since CWI has started. The entire state of Idaho is better off, actually. Positive remard

    Cons

CWI's Human Resource personnel: WHAT has been going on with CWI's HR??? Can't hold onto people. Then newbies come in and force some hibbily- dibbily politically correct training. Then they either quit or get fired. HR also needs to be more available to answer questions (how about answering your email, HR?) Training: HR needs training.OR, maybe there is a reason people don't last in HR; how about looking into this, SOMEONE?

    Advice to Management

New management comes in and the honeymoon phase is so positive. Then, give it a year and they go in for the BITE to push push push - $$$. What happened to quality? Manager: STOP being so condescending to people that have been there far longer than you; we are specialized in our areas, you are not. We need your trust & support, not your patronizing.

I have been working at College of Western Idaho full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Staff is very friendly and supportive. Great quality of life in this area. Feels great to help students achieve their goals and watch them grow.

    Cons

Out-sourced IT staff is only major negative. They don't seem to have the college's best interests in mind. All the best people quit when IT got out-sourced. What's left is not good, and the company seems to not be in a hurry to find good folks, since that means more money in their pocket.

    Advice to Management

Ditch the out-sourced company and start building your top-notch IT dept. In this age of computers, they can make or break a college. They are currently dragging you down.

I worked at College of Western Idaho full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very hard working faculty and staff. A very Inclusive culture. Many Higher Ed institutions have an us against them mentality that CWI has avoided. They also have great benefits.

    Cons

Pay at the time was below market valuations.

    Pros

Great students. Fellow faculty are generally good to work with. No requirements to be on premises during the summer months. Recently added personal days for faculty.

    Cons

Terrible administration, no respect for faculty. No ability to plan appropriately putting faculty in a position of having to share offices meaning there is no possibility of private conversations with students.

    Advice to Management

Get a board that understands what higher education is about. Fire the president who feels it's appropriate to throw tantrums and scream at people when they don't do what they like. Don't allow people to be hired just because they're 'friends' with the president rather than because they have a skill set required to do a job.
