    Positive Outlook

I worked at College of the Canyons part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked in the computer support department of the TLC lab. Wonderful management, friendly atmosphere, good pay and convenient for current students.

    Cons

Sometimes work gets slow, and other days it is super busy! (Think finals week...) May not be a bad thing if you're okay with fluctuating workload.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great job finding ways to hone current staff skills.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at College of the Canyons (More than a year)

    Pros

Ideal atmosphere, serving the campus staff is really fun, campus is full of stellar people who are a pleasure to work with. Management is really understanding about working around class schedules. Computer Support is a great place to learn IT as a student. If you're ambitious, you can get your hands in a little bit of everything (great for building up a résumé). You get what you put in.

    Cons

None to speak of given that it's a student job. Pay is based on Federal Work Study, so if you aren't eligible for that type of financial aid, you may not be able to land a student job. File your FAFSA early!

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at College of the Canyons part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a very professional college, very organized in many ways. It also offers many opportunities for professional development. There is not the sense of a invisible barrier separating full-time versus part-time, at least not socially. The union is active and contributes to better conditions for part-timers. Finally, there seems to be a number of administrative positions that part-timers can consider. Overall, a very nice place to teach.

    Cons

Hourly pay for adjuncts could be much higher. And there is no reliable office space for adjuncts to meet with students for office hours. But, both of these problems are ones that College of the Canyons is aware of and working on, I believe.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at College of the Canyons part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff and faculty are very professional. The college is a well-run organization. There are many professional development opportunities offered to adjuncts. There is less of the hierarchy between full-time and part-time as there is at many other colleges. Overall, it's a great college to teach at, especially for first-timers.

    Cons

Pay for adjuncts could be a little higher, but there is a union actively trying to represent adjunct interests. Also, the location is a little remote (but there are plenty of restaurants nearby).

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at College of the Canyons part-time

    Pros

The facilities is brand new and a very nice building to work in. The computer systems are now up to date and have the latest software, which is extremely nice (compared to what it was).

    Cons

There was a recent shift in leadership that was very detrimental to the work environment. When the Director was overseeing the manager, things ran well. When the Director left, the manager became the stand-in leadership. It does NOT work. There is no direction or vision, just task masters pushing projects around.

    Advice to Management

Get some hands on leadership leading the way with positive reinforcement and shared vision. Managers are okay at status quo, but without leadership and vision the luster will tarnish.

    Pros

Excellent College to be a part of and great co-workers.

I have been working at College of the Canyons part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The median pay for full-timers is around 83K, so it's a good place to try to get a full time position at. Almost everyone I have encountered there is very nice and helpful.

    Cons

They don't try to work with your schedule. I also hear it is the lowest paying college for adjuncts.
