    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Collier County Sheriff full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Every day is different. Great County to live in. Take home cars. Equipment needs taken care of by the Sheriff.

    Cons

Cronyism - the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority, without proper regard to their qualifications.

County is expensive to buy a home.

I have been working at Collier County Sheriff full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Pay and benefits. Good support in the community and within the agency. Good potential for promotion and many different positions and specialties that one can apply for. Large agency.

    Cons

Like all agencies of this type there are politics.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Collier County Sheriff full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Pay and benefits are very good and Florida still has one of the best remaining retirement systems. The co-workers at the S.O. are awesome and there are many areas to work such as CID, K9, Traffic, Etc.

    Cons

Politics surrounding a Sheriff's Office can be disheartening. Recently there has been a lowering of the moral standards and hiring standards.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to keep the standards high and not worry so much about making bad press. Increase traffic enforcement. The driving culture of the County now resembles Miami due to lack of enforcement.

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Collier County Sheriff (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Health benefits, tuition reimbursement, vacation time, sick time.

    Cons

It doesn't matter how hard you work, or what you know; you only advance if you "know" someone. They write up postings geared towards the "friend(s)" they want to hire.

    Advice to Management

Management doesnt seem to care about their employees or their career paths.

    Pros

Employer offers a decent tuition reimbursement program to members who are seeking a degree in various fields like finance, economics, public administration, business administration and so on.

    Cons

At times decisions are made based on friendships instead of the caliber of work and professionalism shown. Education and dedication is not always taken into account.

    Advice to Management

Treat members more like family considering that they dedicate their life to public service. While people do not enter public service to become rich, management should at least make the effort to reward members with time off without having to find other people to work for them and management should back members up instead of looking for ways to and reasons to discipline.

  6. "Great place for a career"

    Pros

Competitive salary, great benefits, family comes first, low crime community, provided with good equipment, most supervisors do not micromanage their people, concern for members wellbeing by management.

    Cons

No pay raises or cost of living adjustments for five years running, will not fire those who need to be fired but rather just transfer them so they become someone elses problem.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your troops, take the recomendations of mid-management as to who needs to go when they are not carrying their fare share of the workload. Stop trying to get rid of the abusers by throwing a blanket over everyone such as the long term disability...forced separation after 181 days of leave.
