I have been working at Collinson Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working for a family firm has it's quirks but its great to get a different vibe to a traditionally bureaucratic corporation. The CEOs (yep there are two) firmly believe in trying to create something different - an organisation with its own culture and a social conscience.

    Cons

You have to be able to go with the flow. Things will change so expect to need to change with them. Not a place where you can hide in the background.

    Advice to Management

Keep going and keep learning. The direction is good but we don't have all the answers yet!

I have been working at Collinson Group full-time

    Pros

A lot of good people. Good brand.

    Cons

Too many meetings. Too many managers and not enough people to get the job done. Micro-management is standard.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees below senior management level. Recognise people who work hard regardless of arbitrary years sitting at a desk.

I have been working at Collinson Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - True culture of innovation
    - Fearless approach to taking risk (due to privately owned status)
    - Flat organisational structure
    - Exciting product development
    - Invests in educating staff

    Cons

    - Due to rapid market change, which requires business model changes - some of the time dedicated to improving overall company culture has taken a back seat.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in people to get the right workforce to drive the company forward

I have been working at Collinson Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and genuine belief in what they do.

    Cons

Disjointed ensemble of companies with inter-billing which causes massive wastage (in both time and efforts). You do need to play the game with your manager to get on, individual contributions and exceeding objectives aren't recognised. The annual appraisal is largely a box-ticking exercise with no incremental promotions or connection with any potential bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Hire appropriately experienced managers with a drive to grow their team, not just box-ticking yes men.

  10. "Disjointed, but trying to change..."

    Pros

Some good people to work with (whilst they stay).

Always trying to innovate and change for the better.

Great for variety of work and is generally a good place to stay for few years.

    Cons

Very disjointed, too much cross-charging getting in the way of people with key skills being unable to achieve their full potential for the business.

Way too many managers (organisation structure is a mess), for the company size (which feels smaller than advertised).

Too many good skilled people are leaving which is not a good place to be in.

    Advice to Management

I recommend you focus on retaining talent by not taking their skills for granted.

Also practice what you preach, as right now it feels like hollow words.
