I have been working at Colonial Penn Life Insurance

      Pros

you can get your insurance license, its in center city, you can work from home if your lucky, the pay isn;t bad- especially if you qualify for the quarterly bonuses

      Cons

I have literally sat at my desk some days, and forced back tears! the sales quotas are out of reach because soo many sales reps cheat the system old computer system that didnt work well, and a new one that has proved to be worse my supervisor gives me absolutly no suppourt whatsoever, but expects me to perform increasingly unreachable sales goals managment is a joke, i really ont think anyone there has a clue whats...

I worked at Colonial Penn Life Insurance full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Pay, bonus (but see below), location to public transportation. Excellent if you' re walking in from nothing as they will help you obtain your insurance license. I've watched some people lucky enough to be able to work from home.

      Cons

Pay close attention to office environment if you walk around BEFORE accepting, multiple grading standards, new stringent bonus requirements. There has been gossip (fully disclosing as gossip) that any issues you share with operations level (which may include but not be limited to H.R., I.T., etc.) may not be completely confidential.

      Advice to Management

      1. Across the board Q.A. standards 2. MANDATORY refresher courses/live phone work for Supervisors 3. Consider occasional drug testing or implementing it 4. Hire additional H.R. Staff on site to manage issues and for the purpose of checks and balances. 5. If it's not in the handbook, insert clear language on relations between people on different hierarchy levels. Most companies are EXPLICIT and FIRM on this....

      Pros

easy job and it pays the bills, convient for me cause I work from home as well as the downtown location.

      Cons

very little one on one time with the supervisors, some of them rarely help out when you have an irate customer. the job is stressful because the people you talk to are dumb and you have to meet a stupid sales quota which is hard to reach because everyone is cheating!!

      Advice to Management

stop rating us on our sales quota. how bout a find out why the percentage is so low instead of firing people.

I have been working at Colonial Penn Life Insurance full-time for more than 9 years

      Pros

Friendly co works safe work environment may have the opportunity to work from home the actual job you were hired to do is not that difficult

      Cons

totally unprofessional work environment incentive is great only if your a new hire cause after that it really depends on who likes you the I believe they make up the #'s as they go along and if someone higher up wants you gone you can be a star employee and you will get written up on any little infraction until your out the door you can be above goal and every area and a little low in one and your on write up this is...

      Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Colonial Penn Life Insurance

      Pros

Flexibility with work schedule (ie. ft,pt,day shift, evening shift, work from home) Yearly pay raises (not much but at least they do it) Assists with obtaining licensing for Life Ins

      Cons

Medical benefits are horrible; Qtrly incentative change every quarter to disqualify more people and are unfair; supervisors are unprofessional; work environment is juvenile (good for those fresh out of high school); unrealistic sales goals; blatant harassment and pressure tactics to induce sales of a mediocre product to low-income (often uneducated)seniors

      Advice to Management

You need to stop promoting sales reps to supervisor and quality positions. This leads to the bad results that your department is achieving. There is a lot of cliches and unprofessionalism within the sales department.

I worked at Colonial Penn Life Insurance

      Pros

Salary is competitive. Good location. They let people work from home once a week, and overall they seem relatively flexible about people's work schedules.

      Cons

Management seems to have zero technical knowledge whatsoever. Almost all of the code is outsourced to CNO India, and is of a very low quality. Almost no quality control mechanisms in place (no code reviews, no documentation, no unit testing, etc). From what I've seen of the code base, it's a miracle that anything works at all. No accountability. No one seems to want to take real technical ownership of problems, I...
