I worked at Colony Specialty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a pretty good benefit plan and provide good PTO and holidays. They have a number of locations which might be convenient.

    Cons

They have poor communication throughout the company. Their middle management are poorly trained and not overseen well. They lack good consistency between departments. Human Resources is not helpful.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication with middle management and make sure that communication follows through to all staff. Train you managers and make sure you have the right people in place. A good sales person does not necessarily make a good manager.

I worked at Colony Specialty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of any at this point, but the best thing is that I'm no longer part of this company.

    Cons

There are many to list and I would say everything but that wouldn’t be specific enough so I will try and list them. On the surface, it looks fine without any reason to doubt that it is a successfully ran operation. I'm afraid that is not the case. Stiff office atmosphere, unspoken unhappiness in the air, unreasonable expectations placed on the staff without proper tools and authority being provided, lack of communication, lack of trust, lack of training, lack of materials, misleading, demanding, fake, depressing, negative, stressful with zero camaraderie.

If you're looking for employment misery, that is it.

I have been working at Colony Specialty full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are very little "pros" regarding employment at Colony. Recent office remodel.

    Cons

Micro managed. Requires unrealistic goal achievements. More unproductive criticism then positive feedback. Managements failure to maintain good employee relations has caused the company to lose a large amount of good employees to competitors.

    Advice to Management

Realize that the continued duplication of work product is time consuming and unproductive. Understand that the constant push and intimidation to meet unrealistic goals causes nothing more then employees to become overwhelmed and overstressed.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Colony Specialty full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Health, dental and vision care.

    Cons

You are a number, not a person. Senior underwriters departed. Most jobs outsourced. Office leases expire December 2012.

    Advice to Management

Believe and trust the hard workers who care about what they do because there are not that many left.
