I have been working at Colorado School of Mines (More than a year)

    Pros

Sometimes there's enough downtime to do homework, depending on where on campus you're working. Also you get to make a few friends on campus who come in as regulars.

    Cons

Not too many serious cons. Pay could definitely be better as it typically starts at $10/hr. Often you're locked in to whatever pay rate they set you at initially, and they won't raise it unless you ask. The higher your payrate, the less hours you work because the typical workstudy amount is about $2000 for the year.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any particular advice to give to management because there are so many different people who manage different parts of the campus. In general, management needs to be sensitive to the fact that because Mines assigns so much homework, if someone is doing homework instead of work-study related work they should be cut some slack.

I have been working at Colorado School of Mines full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours, Many of the faculty were easy to work with. Most of the students are understanding. If you needed to be in the area they were o to let you do your job.

    Cons

The hierarchy of the Facilities Management are more concerned about office politics than their employees. Instead of running a facility like they wanted work done correctly. They were more concerned about if anyone was offending anyone else. A true PC witch hunt with more of a "don't say anything" or your likely to be fired atmosphere than of a higher education facility.

    Advice to Management

The place truly could be better. Try to sing a little common sense. Not everything anyone says should be viewed as 100% negative. There is such a thing as positive feedback but you rarely view it as such.

    Pros

Excellent benefit package and balance of work life. Great location and community.

    Cons

Limited to non existant opportunities for professional growth or promotion due to the restrictive state rules surrounding hiring practices of classified employees.

    Advice to Management

Opt out of the state system.
