    Positive Outlook

I worked at Columbia Basin College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard-working students, good classrooms (for the most part), always had plenty of classes for me to teach.

    Cons

Sometimes I had to walk across campus & back again between classes, but as I was there longer, they assigned me to classrooms that were close together or kept me in the same classroom.

    Advice to Management

I absolutely loved the President of the college! Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Awesome environment to work in, all of my co workers were very friendly and personable.
Very flexible hours and understanding supervisors.
    Very convenient.

    Cons

Only minimum wage, no chance for student workers to get a raise. Only up to 19 hours, although this is understandable because of federal guidelines.

I worked at Columbia Basin College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Departments work very closely to provide for students. I felts that my supervisors actually cared for me as a person and employee.

    Cons

Policies subject to change on a whim, future plans sort of fuzzy. Student employees and interns are sort of taken for granted by upper management.

    Advice to Management

As a institution of higher learning making better use of student employees and seeing them as actual employees goes a long way to them feeling needed in the work place.

I worked at Columbia Basin College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can teach skills involving filing, spreadsheets, labeling, and communication; Can use the management as references for future jobs; great stepping stone for careers involving office work and essentially anything that relates with communicating with people.

    Cons

Low pay; few hours; days can be slow; must be a student; no real growth within the department; occasional favoritism among some student employees; managers and supportive staff members often remind student employees about their position; frequent gossip.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps provide the students with enough work to avoid slow days.

    Pros

Hard working, talented, good people working at Columbia Basin College. A good culture and a growing organization. More opportunities available as four-year programs are added.

    Cons

The legislature rarely approves any type of raises. Can go six or eight years without a raise. It's discouraging to see everyone else in the community getting cost of living raises.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. The culture is pretty good except for the salaries.
