I have been working at Columbus McKinnon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are still a few people who are trying to make a difference daily even though management is clueless as to how to run a division.

    Cons

Eighty years of tremendous growth in OHIO completely erased in less than four years. That must be some kind of record. Thirty plus people have left during this time. Zero zero zero leadership. Zero zero zero supervision. Not one manager has any hint of credibility. Upper management can only implement ideas from "how to manage" books. Never an original thought. Tell me how those...

    Advice to Management

Carefully read every review posted on this site. Obviously these issues are not confined to just OHIO but are corporate wide. The Corporate culture needs overhauled, not only management methods. Incompetent workers would normally weed themselves out over time. Here they thrive and are rewarded. The industry has noticed and our competitors are taking market share. Stop the insanity. Those who fail to remember the past...

I have been working at Columbus McKinnon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay for area, most workers are great to work with and they care about their jobs. Close and convenient from my home.

    Cons

As a long time employee(over 20 years) I can recall when we had KNOWLEDGEABLE management who actually understood our product and how to make it. We now have a bunch of "numbers people" running our company into the ground. The top 15 shop employees have over 670 combined years of experience vs. less than 20 combined years in our management staff. You would think they might tap into the wealth of knowledge on the floor...

I have been working at Columbus McKinnon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good people except for mangement. Pay is slightly above average, location is ok, benefits ok, nice that you can roll your vacation from year to year.

    Cons

Management......upper management, middle management. They ALL micro-management and treat employees like children. Like we are incapable of intelligent thoughts. They have no idea what our jobs consist of yet try to tell us the best way to do them. Pathetic excuses for human beings. They should all be fired....wipe the slate clean and start again.

    Advice to Management

Go to sensitivity training!! Stop being bullies, learn how to actually manage people. Better yet, get down in the trenches with us and actually learn what we do and then have a professional train you at being managers...maybe then you'll actually understand that's it not all about processes and procedures!!! That's how micro-managers run departments......Humans do it the right way!!!!

I have been working at Columbus McKinnon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Cons

No incentive program Clueless upper management No Strategic Planning Dis-functional stove piped new product development process Poor internal communications Very reactionary upper management to bad news Archaic IT systems Three Reductions In Force (Layoffs) in less than 18 Months. Advice to Management

Commit the resources necessary to right the Chattanooga operation or sell the business unit. Develop a five year plan with targeted realistic improvement goals; stabilize leadership (5 GM's in last 3 years) and have the patience to see it through. The impact of your decision to merge Chattanooga and Midland Forges without a coherent transition and operational business plan is what is the driving challenge for the facility....

I have been working at Columbus McKinnon

    Pros

Like the job, interesting, good wages, good benefits. Enjoy working with most of my fellow employees. Use to be a reliable employer. A lot of really good people over the years.

    Cons

Total disregard for employees. Communication is non existent, total lack of respect. Upper management hasn't listened to anyone on the floor for years. Apparently just because you have worked on the floor for years doesn't mean you know anything.

    Advice to Management

Its been the same advice for years listen to the people who actually do the work, but lets face it they have never listened yet. Upper management make totally stupid decisions and everyone goes along with them.
