I have been working at Columbus State Community College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

love the work and the people

    Cons

Office Associates are extremely underpaid in comparison to same job at other colleges

    Advice to Management

You need to increase the pay of your Office Associates to the same levels as other institutions. Office Associates do important work.

    Pros

Great Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision; Paid Time Off; Sick Leave; $8000 Educational Reimbursement Stipend towards post-graduate work; Parking.

    Laid back work environment.

    Cons

Laid back work environment breathes stagnation and complacency. Many employees come and stay until retirement... Working just hard enough to get by, in an environment that is fairly stable... Which is great for them, but QUITE DIFFICULT for more-driven people to stay passionate and motivated, and move up the ladder.

Promotions rarely happen. If and when they do, it seems to be based on seniority, rather than who is actually doing a remarkable job... OR, if you happen to brown-nose with the boss!

    Advice to Management

    1. Listen to your employees, especially when they are asking to be challenged, or for a pathway to growth (year after year)! IGNORING THEM WILL ONLY LEAD TO YOUR LOSING REALLY GOOD/TALENTED AND FOCUSSED EMPLOYEES!
    2. Stop promoting incompetent people because they are your friends or laugh at your jokes! Especially when you promote and place them in positions where they manage other workers whose expertise, knowledge and skill they do not share, understand or respect.

I worked at Columbus State Community College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The good thing is that you can choose your schedule in the Math department. Those with highest seniority get to choose first and so on. Then you can try to change your schedule with someone in the department if you like.

    Cons

The downside to the Math department is you just about have to be from one of the Ohio universities to get hired or you have to be an adjunct in the department and apply for a higher position. Standard Deviation = 0.

    Pros

The Columbus State Community College is a wonderful transition between college transfers, and is a apprentice icon within developing a college intern's skills and knowledge concerning these skills, knowledge, and on-job training advantages to possess!

    Cons

Columbus State Community College is more geared to the entering young-adulthood generation. So, if your more in-depth to a atmosphere of quality learning and already have children turning into young-adults, this would be more ideal for your young-adults in a higher learning education environment.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and stay with the surveyed percentages to increase collegial progression.

    Pros

Positive community. Relaxed environment. Students are great overall.

    Cons

Can't work more than 29 hours a week if part-time. Less if adjuncting. Sometimes there aren't enough hours to go around dependent on student enrollment. Traffic and parking at main campus can be problematic.

I have been working at Columbus State Community College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Collaboration is the key to working within education. For the most part, Columbus State administrators do their best to find ways to serve students and eliminate silos. That is mainly because the people that work for Columbus State love their students and love the work they do to help them.

    Cons

There is minimal opportunity to advance. People tend to stay in their position for a long time regardless of whether they do outstanding work or sub-par work. There is also very little wiggle room in terms of salary, bonuses, or raises.

    Advice to Management

Create an enhanced reward system for staff that pays staff to perform at their peak. Reevaluate health care benefits to ensure the college and the employees are getting the best value for their benefits.

I have been working at Columbus State Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They gave me a place to figure out if I wanted to teach as a career, and when I didn't, where I could make some extra money and have fun teaching something I love.

    Cons

Some programs have very little flexibility for the instructor so you can make changes. I don't believe this is Columbus State alone, it probably has something to do with transfer credit for the students.

    Advice to Management

Management should be more responsive. Other instructors are not students, we shouldn't have to wait the standard 48 hours or more to get a response.
