I worked at Comal ISD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice facilities and many great people working there. Great students with a lot of potential. Great technical staff and paraprofessionals. Great support services.

    Cons

Too many principals fired and teachers put on leave over minor things due to pressure put on board and superintendent by threatening parents.

    Advice to Management

Get your facts straight and stand up for administrators and great teachers when it is here say. You have created a hostile environment for staff and empowered hostile parents. Tread carefully with people's reputations and careers when nothing criminal is going on.

To live and work in New Braunfels is a great opportunity. The people are great, the kids are great, and just a great place to be.

    Cons

The cons here are no different from any other place of employment. You get out what you put in.

I have been working at Comal ISD full-time

    Pros

Teachers create environment of welcome and really try to help one another out. Reading & Writing district specialists are wonderful to work with.

    Cons

Principal brought in is ridiculous!!! Totally looks at kids as if they are just a number. A specific number, STAAR test number. No consideration of what they are going through at home and how their poverty level (which from her own mouth, has no clue about) and family issues affects their performance.

    Advice to Management

Kids are small humans, remember that when you decide to bring in a head-hunter

I have been working at Comal ISD full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The superintendent is realistic in that he understands the need to give employees the chance to do little things, like wear jeans to work every once in a while. Even though the district isn't small anymore it still has the small town feel to it in that it is easy to get to know others at other schools and work with them.

    Cons

The pay is not equivalent to other districts in the area but many feel the supportive atmosphere is worth the loss of compensation.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Comal ISD full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work life balance, but could be better, pay is decent and work is work. I can really complain about all that much.

    Cons

IT'S A SCHOOL DISTRICT, THERE IS NO REASON TO TRY AND RUN IT LIKE A BUSINESS THAT IS PROFITABLE. Transportation dept. is falling apart, seeing that busses from 1987 are still being used. For a family of 3 expect to pay over 900 a month for insurance, and it isn't really worth a damn. basically if you want insurance, make sure you have a second job.

    Advice to Management

quit trying to run departments to the ground. don't give money back and use it properly to order busses so the children to have to ride around on "route" busses built in the early 2000's and send children in the athletic department around the area in busses built in 1987, (no exaggeration). it looks really really bad.

    Advice to Management

They need to train their Principals better.
