I have been working at Comcast (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good balance of work and life, good people to work with.

    Cons

Difficult to move up if you're not in headquarters.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of promoting people not in Philadelphia.

I worked at Comcast full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and pay can be good if one hits quota.

    Cons

Quotas are very hard to attain. Most get fired several months after ramp up period. My whole team of hard workers (-1) is gone!

    Advice to Management

Give your salespeople much more time to build business and succeed. Lose your PIP mentality .

I have been working at Comcast full-time

    Pros

My org is very remote work centered. Engineers are given the freedom to make sound technical decisions.

    Cons

Lots of layers of management, people-related decisions can be hard to make (raises, promotions, new hires).

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees market rates. Don't hold raises over employees heads for over a year.

I worked at Comcast full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great location in Reston Town Center. Fun, smart people. Job security. Great work-life balance.

    Cons

If you really want to get things done, forget about it. Red tape, processes, finance, make being nimble impossible. A lot of time is spent maneuvering process, not actually working. Pay and benefits are low for a fortune 100 company in this area. Promotions are rare.

    Advice to Management

Keep making the office environment a great place to be. It is all that place has going for it.

I have been working at Comcast full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Yes you can make some good money here. The commission structure is one of the best around for this industry, especially with the multipliers. Benefits are obviously good as this is a huge company

    Cons

There are several. Very few reps ever hit quota. You can be a master of this industry, but it means nothing if you don't know how to do it the "Comcast way". Training is a joke. Sales management is a revolving door. 1 year average lifespan for a new sales rep. Tenured reps have most things locked up. To succeed, you need to live and breathe this company. Personal life will no longer exist. All companies have their issues, but it seems like most employees just deal with it because of the benefits like free cable.

    Advice to Management

Train on systems and processes. All of the business reps know sales 101. A small fraction actually know how to navigate through the Comcast systems to actually be effective at this job. Velocity training is a waste of company money and time. Most reps return from the nice free trip to Philadelphia, with no idea how to really do this job. This machine could run much more smoothly if you actually listened to the reps in the field. The problem is that most reps and managers are too weak to actually speak up and admit how messed up the system really is. Oh well, I guess I am just one of those people who will just deal with it for the free cable!!!

I have been working at Comcast (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large monopoly thus jobs are mainly secure if you are performing ok or good.

    Cons

Senior Management dreams to compete with certain companies are making already messed up processes get even worse, and brainwashing with agile and lean processes combined with fake care for employees is sometimes pushing great talents to walk away!

    Advice to Management

Get real, provide better vision since one you are propagating now is often ridicules, and start appreciating hard work by your employees or you will loose even more good talent which is now days actually harder to find and retain! Be more fair when it comes to annual reviews and rewards for the employees! Reduce number of management, company is extremely top heavy!

I have been working at Comcast full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A great benefit package for a private company. Good middle managers and a "family" atmosphere. Company is going places and doing well. Decent pay.

    Cons

Despite the company having an excellent balance sheet, they are stingy with funds for training or headcount. My position is understaffed by a factor of 2:1 or more. This results in problems for the customers and business areas. In their defense, this is a particular problem with IT where snake oil salesmen with Cloud computing and management pandering Gartner group make unrealistic claims so they think anything is possible.)

    Advice to Management

Be ahead of the curve on IT rather than following industry trends and claims from 10 years ago promising magical results that are not happening. Listen to your customers and business areas.
