I have been working at Comcast (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Make your own schedule, free cable (sort of), be your own boss (sort of), travel, good benefits, great 401k, great stock purchase and option plan.

    Cons

No management direction, no senior leadership direction, and the end goal is sometime hidden. Some managers let subordinates make decisions for them. Question begs to answer who is actually running the department. Lot's of secret agenda's, empire building and silos. Everything here seems to point to making the content side of the house successful first. Difficult to be promoted within a department. There are internal job opportunities but you just don't seem to get called to interview for them and when you do the description does nto fit the role advertised.

    Advice to Management

Find some direction and move toward a goal. Not everything is based on stock holder value. Look internally for talent. There are a lot of great people here that would love to be challenged everyday. Find them and the company will get some direction. Listen to your employees.

I worked at Comcast full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, courtesy services. If you can't get a job at Verizon this is not too bad but keep looking for your next step.

    Cons

Can be very stressful especially weekend and evening shifts as you are the one who must fix what everyone previously did not do or has done. hostile work environment where how a supervisor or manager feels about you can affect you having a job and promotions. Not enough options to balance work life. Career options are to leave and apply for positions outside of the city and state, or keep doing the same job with more stringent requirements.

    Advice to Management

Actually sit on the phones and take calls minimum of 8 hours straight and get a taste of what you are expecting employees to do on the phone and deal with while following a script. Tighten up on supervisors taking escalated calls vs passing them around till customers hang up. Pay attention to employees that are getting burnt out and come up with action plans to limit and relieve the stress of the job. Do not let customers talk to employees any kind of way and make sure you know the ever changing policies before you try to enforce them. Recognize the employees that are there on time and are using time off effectively. By the time i left over 80% of the employees had been on Family Medical Leave because they were stressed out and needed more time to be away from work.

I worked at Comcast full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At one time you could make more than the manager each year over selling cable products.

    Cons

Management keeps changing the commission plans to reduce pay out and tries to run workers under micro management rules, also letting under performers get away with out making their numbers.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting the workers that cannot sell into management positions because they are in the yes mens club. All your top producers have left due to the politics.

    Pros

Lots of learning, good experience to put under your belt if you are new, and good team members. Free TV and Internet. Layed back office environment.

    Cons

Overworked employees, low starting pay, micro managed. Everything is metric based and their are a lot of red tape. Yearly reviews are strict and you have to meet a lot of goals to get a promotion. Slow progession to get promoted. Be prepared to multi task.

    Advice to Management

Less micro managing. Value your developers with a good starting salary especially if they are working long hours.

I have been working at Comcast full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, free cable and internet! Committed to training and development for employees. Coworkers- most of the people hired in the last 5 years have been intelligent, high caliber individuals, enabling Comcast to begin to innovate like an actual technology company as opposed to the traditional cable provider.

    Cons

All of the typical cons that come along with working in a large organization. A lot of silos. Some departments are wonderful and get a lot done, others accomplish very little because they have work cultures where face time matters more than results. Your experience depends on what department you work in and who your immediate boss is.

    Advice to Management

Too many fire drill requests from executives constantly put employees in reactive mode and result in subpar deliverables. Incorporate employees in the strategy and planning process for better results and happier staff.
