I worked at Comerica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I met a handful of decent people.

    Cons

Everything about this job is trash. I was judged fot not wearing makeup, I was juddged and not respected because I am younger than 30. The only thing this company cares about is their bottom line. Employees are just peasants and the only way you MAY receive respect is if you're in a management position. No advancement opportunities. Sales driven business forcing sales on customers who are not interested, or have all of the products offered by Comerica. Outdated business model and concepts. Outdated systems. Overall negative morale in all the positions and locations I have worked at. Unrealistic goals to acheive.

    Advice to Management

If you need to address things with employees, do so with confidentiality and respect. Be a manager, not a micromanager - most of the employees have worked the same job, 5 days a week for most of their lives, none of us need reassurance on how to do things properly.

I worked at Comerica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the lower staff on the totem pole are wonderful people. Who doesn't like bankers hours when you actually have staff.

    Cons

Low pay, more of a sales job than actual banking, poor upper management, lack of training, HR is a joke for being an employee advocate, jobs being outsourced to India, branches closing, staff that actually cares about each other and clients are being treated poorly so they quit versus being fired.

    Advice to Management

Invest in quality people not robots pushing sales

    I worked at Comerica full-time

    Pros

Some decent people, some perks (most being cut back gradually)

    Cons

Lots , little opportunities and higher-management VPs/SVPs that contribute very little but good at over managing, 'Learning Consultants' and HR do not know much about banking which shows in their programs

    Advice to Management

Get people on board who are qualified, not just to fill minority hiring quotas to look good on paper, check the way promoting employees is done specifically in Credit area. Clearly many of the promotions are not earned

I have been working at Comerica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really none, still have a chair I guess

    Cons

Management is utterly removed from all employees that it seems they work for consulting groups rather than the bank

If you like waking up & dreading each and every day, being undervalued, and always micro-managed then this is your place

Used to be respected in the industry but now just a mediocre player from old systems to poor staff, doing other peoples' tasks because of the overwhelming incompetence of people who are higher-level by title and just coasted by for years.

Nearly all people working in credit here, low standards, expect others to carry their weight and held to same plane. Absurd considering varying experience and education of people, should be based on merit and work not by made-up fiction.

    Advice to Management

No advice would be enough to salvage this wreck waiting to happen. Incompetence breeds incompetence.

    I worked at Comerica full-time

    Pros

On the higher end of salaries for bankers

    Cons

Sales Sale Sale!!!! Micro managed everyday about sales. Who's your talking to, about what, who your going to visit, etc. Constant sales.

    Advice to Management

Back off. Reward for other things than just sales, like retaing the customers you do have, providing great customer service.

I have been working at Comerica full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Maybe at one point relationship inclined. Lots of people escaping has a potential to allow growth opportunities.

    Cons

Management is at a cross road. No direction & false promises are daily constants. All about saving money at the expense of employees; being run by consulting reports rather than insight and values. 0 appreciation and ridiculous systems in place, followed by constant moving and shuffling around as a "pool" system. Almost really sad to watch.

    Advice to Management

Not even sure where to start. So much is wrong. Top people could care less about others, to the point of an utter communication break-down. Never communicated the company's goal...to be a Wells Fargo quota bank? To actually care? Not sure. Everyone has different information, human resources has very little understanding of banking, and existing employees are expensed.

Look at how many long-term people have been leaving the bank. Maybe on the surface it isn't obvious to customers but serious issues are not even close to being addressed or dealt with properly.

I have been working at Comerica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Locations, benefits, depends on position but pay is okay

    Cons

Poor management, lack of training, lack of support, does not follow Human Resources guidelines, lack of ethics, poor to little at all response time to concerns, lack of appreciation or value

    Advice to Management

Support your staff, properly train your team, hire people who care and are not about themselves, learn to listen more than you speak and take employee concerns seriously and stop hiring over qualified people for positions that they grow out of quicker than you care to admit
