A fun concept that isn’t worth the time put in.

    Pros

Writing about comics, tv, anime, and video games is a dream come true. All the research for the job is reading about things you want and if you don’t want to pitch your own articles there are pre approved topics readily available.

    Cons

The pay for the amount of effort put in is absolutely atrocious, $10 dollars for a 400-1000 word article is bad enough, but then you have to edit your own photos, add alternate text for it, and also find articles to link back to. The average article takes 2 hours, that’s 5 dollars an hour.

Great flexibility and freedom, but pay could be better and things can really slow down

    Pros

The hours are flexible, you can write as much as you want, and getting articles published is a breeze. If you love comics, anime and TV, it's a job that's easy to love and get passionate about. Plus you get to read comics and watch shows and movies for research, which is pretty amazing.

    Cons

Getting articles published and pitches approved can either be really fast or slow to a complete crawl. Also, you have to write a LOT to make a full-time living, and you don't really get paid for the research you put into articles, especially when it comes to lists. The site does offer pre-approved pitches you can pick up so you don't always have to come up with topics yourself, but the rate at which they do that can also vary greatly.

    A Great Team

Jun 17, 2021 - Digital Content Editor in Spokane, WA

    Pros

CBR is filled with sharp, dedicated editors and pop culture nerds. Culturally progressive, I trust my fellow editors to listen to my opinions. They're fun people, and in the face of controversy, I feel like the team has always done the right thing. The experience I've gotten in this position is invaluable.

    Cons

The salary would be hard to live on by itself. I understand there are full-time positions for folks in Vancouver, but my part-time income needs supplementing.

Low Pay, Not All Bad Tho

    Pros

The editors are always helpful. You get to work on cool projects. They encourage you to pitch your own stories, and are supportive of diverse ideas.

    Cons

Poor pay. $10 for a 500-1000 word story = .02$ / word, but you also have to work with images and write a TLDR, usually an extra 30-45 minutes of work since you also have to add alt text and find your own images for less popular titles. The company itself also does not support the writers well. They only support the brand. They claim they don't want "bot writers" but that's what they're paying for.

    Pros

Flexible hours and decent payment for a short amount of work make this job ideal for beginners into the literary world. It gives you access to a fun medium and the work environment is always supportive and kind.

    Cons

It's not enough pay to solely provide for yourself, but is excellent supplemental pay.

Work is steady but editors need to be more consistent with feedback

    Sep 1, 2021 - List Writer

    Pros

    * Pay rate recently went up from $15 to $18/article a few months into my employment so far * Editors generally give polite, good constructive feedback for articles whenever they need to be fixed * Pay comes 2 times a month

    Cons

    * Pitches for articles can take a very long time to be approved (up to about a month or two) * Editors don't give enough warning before giving you strikes/warnings for possible errors in work they never discussed with you before then * Sometimes there are too many topics available for one category and never enough for other ones, though this mainly occurred during the summer.
