I worked at Commercial Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Most rigorous and comprehensive training I've received at any company - felt like I got a Masters in Energy, which was critical to my success/confidence with this work -Never set up to fail - only put in situations where I felt sure I would do well, and always well supported by the team and management -Truly made to feel that this was my company as well -Company truly cares about its employees, sees them as whole...

    Cons

-Work/life balance can be challenging as there is never a shortage of work to get done -Very conservative office environment (men in suits and ties and shaved beards) -limited PTO -lots of time spent in office -long work days -white male-dominated industry - would be great to see more women and people of color!

    Advice to Management

-Continue to invest in your people -Look to hire from a more diverse pool of people

  2. "A history of disrupting and rethinking the energy space"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Commercial Energy full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company that challenges the stodgy energy industry status quo

    Cons

The pace does not subside (if it is considered a con)

    Advice to Management

Commercial Energy is a place for thinkers. The energy marketplace is evolving and changing due to risks and opportunities. To meet those challenges, a Commercial Energy team member tends to be driven, so the pace can be intense. Not unlike the pace that startups endure, that Silicon Valley endures, that any disruptor in its industry will face. Commercial Energy may not be an idle little Eden, but it is the place...

I worked at Commercial Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Great starting point for a professional career. They hire a lot of younger adults and offer promotion within the company. -Each position holds a critical role within the company; you never go to work feeling like you're wasting your time -Lots of cool after-work events/parties that you get paid to go to. -Sense of camaraderie within individual departments (sales, billing, etc.)

    Cons

-Very rigid management and culture. They're looking for 'yes men' instead of people that challenge the status quo -Low pay vs. the amount of work they expect each employee to accomplish. -Little to no training from department heads on job duties (at least in my experience). Very 'sink or swim' management style and you'll get much more out of asking co-workers for help vs your manager. -Not very much respect for hourly...

    Advice to Management

I would consider looking at ways to make the office more welcoming to younger people on the administrative team. It's an intense work environment that's easy to get burnt out on so I'd consider compromises like telecommuting or more flexibility from the standard 8-6 schedule to keep things fresh for the employees that are expected to be in the office all day.

    "CEO makes this company unbearable"

    I worked at Commercial Energy

    Pros

The other employees are ok enough. The theory behind the company makes sense, the CEO thinks he is smarter than everyone and let’s everyone know.

    Cons

The CEO of this company makes the workplace unbearable. It felt like jail working there. When I was first hired, the CEO Ron Perry took me in his office and told me how I could be the next superstar in the company. In a matter of weeks, I heard how smart he was, how rich he was, how many celebrity friends he has, and how many champion racehorses he has, everything but the actual working environment. In a matter of moths,...

I have been working at Commercial Energy for more than a year

    Pros

Commerical Energy is truly a work hard-play hard environment. This is a place you come to have a career, not a job. The work may be demanding, but it is rewarding and certainly pays dividends in both personal/professional growth and cold hard cash. Management really invests in its people. The hiring process is rigorous, but once you're in, your family. This means generosity and loyalty both in the form of continued...

I have been working at Commercial Energy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people are hard-workers, the atmosphere professional, and the pay is solid. Each employee works as part of a team to provide quality service and quality assurance. Nothing stands out as particularly bad. So far, everything has been pretty up-front.

    Cons

It's a little boring at times, and there's less interaction then I'd like in a job. Tough for me to see the impact of my work from the back office, mainly because I don't interact with customers, salespeople, or even managers very much.

    Advice to Management

The atmosphere can get boring when completing a time-consuming task, so I feel like there should be a little more personal freedom to, for example, listen to music, chat with co-workers, etc.

I have been working at Commercial Energy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I have seen Commercial consistently promote from within, today five of the managers got there that way. A fun and passionate place to serve business clients' energy management needs.

    Cons

You have to want more from your career and ask for more.

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting from within and keep growing your energy management services.

    Pros

One of the smartest group of people I've ever met. Clear and realistic expectations. You feel appreciated for your hard work. Intense onboarding process but you feel supported the entire time. Great management and everyone is always eager to help. This is a company where you can make a career.

    Cons

If you are not willing to work hard, this may not be the right place for you. Expectations are high but your hard work does not get unnoticed.

    Advice to Management

Keep giving constant feedback and clear expectations!

I have been working at Commercial Energy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've seen positive changes in my short time at CE. I joined as a contractor and was converted to regular full time within 3 months. I'm continually learning new things. The people are wonderful. We work hard and play hard too. I love our new 'Good Energy' AWARDS.

    Cons

Expectations to are high. You need to be willing to step up.
