I worked at Commerzbank (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work-life balance is good. There is no pressure whatsoever as there are no hard goals. Yearly appraisals are a joke compared with my previous employers. HR is an alibi. Knowledge levels are zero. A lot of people work there who have no real HR knowledge. If you take the bank to court you will usually win as the bank makes elementary mistakes in HR. CBK has lost most of their court cases or settled outside of court.....see press articles.

    Cons

The salary is way too low from an industry perspective. The only people that start at Coba now can obviously not find a job elsewhere. Bonuses this year were 1.000-3.000 which is obviously a joke. The employees are frustrated behind comprehension. Management has no real strategy. The bank is 17% German state owned and behaves like that. Rainmakers go to real banks. The divisional head of FICC said in Berlin in 2011 " we are not Sparkasse Frankfurt".....a very arrogant comment to make. Today he would be happy to work for Sparkasse Frankfurt.
NEVER EVER HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH YOUR MANAGER AND HR WITHOUT A MEMBER OF THE WORKERS COUNCIL PRESENT. Otherwise you run the risk of your manager and HR reporting that you said something that you actually never said. This is extremely important, especially in FICC.

    Advice to Management

Develop a real business strategy, make managers accountable, stop the old-boy society mentality, start paying real salaries to good people.

    Pros

team was good. I learn a lot of things in the short time of 3 months during my internship. I can recommend an internship. Obviously it depends on the department, too.

    Cons

location at train station not so nice. The bank still suffers from the crisis but is on a good way of recovery.

    Advice to Management

    good strategic plan is required

I worked at Commerzbank as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities in a very friendly environment. I managed to work with some amazing people and learn a lot from the experience. They are very open to questions and helped me with any issue I had. Overall a great experience.

    Cons

Although the division I worked in was very friendly, the bank was going through a tough time financially, which led to a big restructuring.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication channels regarding job-related issues. During the time I was there, the bank fired 5000 of its employees and the only means of communication they had, was a short webinar.

    Pros

Very social structure, geniuinly nice people, help was always offered
